I suppose we should be thankful that they're at least fixing it. It's more than they did for all the issues in F1 2010, where their responses were basically, "We designed the game to cheat" and "if you want it fixed, buy F1 2011". Which resulted in my boycotting a British developer that I had, in th...

No one should be surprised about this. Activision want to do the same (essentially) with Call of Duty games, so... why should EA not get in on the fun? ;) I'm sure it'll be like the other microtransaction games where the person most willing to sink real cash into it has an advantage which is near un...

The other possibility is that you're nudging up against the VRAM limit of the cards. When you push over, it swaps to system RAM, then if the scene gets less complex again, it'll drop below needing to do that and the framerate recovers.

What little time I had to play with Windows 8 in a proper install, rather than Virtual Machine, left me less than impressed.

The beta drivers (302.something?) for Win 8 may improve things, if you haven't tried them already?

Have you tried the new 301.42 WHQL drivers?

I suffered similar issues with getting Surround working on more up-to-date drivers and my 460s - they just didn't want to offer me Surround.

They haven't fixed the only issues I've experienced with 301.10, those being sometimes the Start button doesn't work when clicked if the taskbar is centre-monitor constrained, and occasionally on boot the taskbar will be at the top of the screen and half missing. While both are rare occurrances and ...

you cant run 3 Monitors (aka Surround) on a single Nvidia GPU (Except GTX670, 680) You need a 2nd GTX550 for SLI ! THen it will work. (but you said the GPU only has 2 outputs ? Problem!) Best way would be to buy an AMD GPU! 7750 or such. they should be able to run Eyefinity aka 3 Monitor gaming on ...

I'd go with the i5 laptop too. SSDs have become an essential component of a laptop for me, far less chance of damage in case of high shock and increased speed, especially if you're the sort of people who turns a laptop off or hibernates, rather than just putting it to sleep when you're not using it....

Depends largely on how much disposable cash I have at the time. ;)

$500 wouldn't make me worry too much, provided I had said cash... $1000 and I'd have to have a serious think. It really depends how much I'd use it.

The only cards that come with 4x the consumer VRAM are the workstation class cards. They sold a 6GB workstation equavalent of the GTX470... although it cost over £4000. So you pay for it. But a quad-VRAM consumer card? Not a chance. :(
