Stick to the maxim; "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is." ;)

I've seen a lot of excitement about those monitors, but I'm still sceptical. Running a monitor that far out of spec gives me some concern.

to use the surround on 680 you must use the two DVI + DP False. I'm running 5760x1200 Surround on DVI+DVI+HDMI. ... On the VGA front, I'm not sure. You'll probably get away with a DisPort->VGA adaptor for one, but I don't know whether the HDMI port outputs an analogue signal (many don't, as it's no...

I am surprised to see Sanctum still afloat to be honest, it has a insane difficulty ramp past about the 3rd level and at the time of its release was rather limited in maps/weapons so it got old pretty fast. Same here, frankly. Sanctum was one of those indie games I picked up out of interest and fou...

USB monitors, as I found to my detriment, have their own issues - usually with SLI/CrossFire and/or other multiscreen implementations. Drove me nuts trying to figure out why a USB monitor wouldn't work...

Palit GTX680 4GB SLI tested.

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/4666/palit_jetstream_geforce_gtx_680_4gb_video_cards_in_sli/index17.html

600 euros

The price increase of the 4GB version is extortionate. £420 for a 'standard' 680, £550 for a 4GB version... that's highway robbery, I swear.

I got Surround working again on the GOG version by simply editing AspectRatio=-1 in the user.ini file to AspectRatio=6. (That's for 5760x1200; for 5760x1080, use AspectRatio=5)... not sure if there are any other quirks, but the game looks as I would expect with that setting applied.

helifax - instructions on how to find your CD Key if you've got the Steam version are here. Valve (for some reason) encrypt the CD Key in the script that runs when you first install/run the game from inside Steam. But the CD Key is easy enough to find in the registry anyway.

Bad news, folks - the Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2 breaks its flawless Surround support - pillarboxed with HUD hiding partly under the bezels. :( I have added a note to the Detailed Report about this. I was waiting for the Enhanced Edition to actually put some effort into playing further into W...

I've not noticed framerates varying from monitor to monitor.

Frankly, I'm not even sure how that would be possible, short of the card losing sync between the Surround-grouped monitors.

Thx a lot to everybody! Now I have no doubts, I just don't know if going SLI or not, or maybe wait for the 690... Because 680 SLI is almost 1100 euros here in spain... The 690 isn't likely to be cheap either. If it's less than 800-900 Euros I'll be quite surprised. And the TDP of the 680 is 195w II...

SoftTH introduces the need for extra GPUs, though, so you might as well just run Surround then an extra accessory display on another GPU and avoid the issues that SoftTH presents with modern games.

It's not possible from my experiments either. GTX680 appears to be required for 3x1+1 setup.

You'll need to watch VRAM usage very closely with 1.25GB of VRAM. Surround eats it up and begs for more. If you're careful with settings used, you can get pretty good framerates in a lot of games, even in Surround resolutions on GTX460SLI or GTX470SLI. But on most demanding titles, you'll have to cu...

Of course not; people are an ungrateful bunch of wossnames sometimes. ;)

Personally, about the only place I currently find worth giving money to is GOG; particularly as they're getting new Indie releases onboard, etc.

I'd be surprised if power draw increased any significant amount moving to that 3930K (unless you overclock it, when it will start to gobble power) from an i7 930. The most power hungry thing in modern high-end systems is really the GPU.

It's absolutely no slouch. The fact that it's also cooler running, quieter and a lot less power hungry than SLI GTX580s makes me want to say the GTX680 wins hands down. When the 4GB version is released, there won't be any competition any more for which nVidia solution is better, as it removes the VR...
