sixshot, that's the problem! If you were Activision, EA, Capcom... any big publisher house - would you want to release mod tools, which allow people to create their own content, or would you sell the 'console generation' a skin at a time for a dollar? Obviously they want to make money. I think they'...

Aye, but back in the day, the resolution that most 3D cards topped out at was 640x480, with 16-bit colour. Just the framebuffer necessary to render a single 2D frame takes more than 4MB of VRAM now. ;) I don't think it's sad - merely a sign of progress. Otherwise it's like saying it's "sad" we need ...

The Galaxy MDT card is actually quite an epic fail. To run Surround on it, you need to run at 50Hz. 50. Hz. That means there will actually be a fair amount of monitors that probably won't do it, period. That and the fact that it's a GTX570 1.25GB... with all the attendant VRAM bottlenecks that creat...

Well, the new GK104 chip is gonna have 2xDVI, HDMI and a Displayport! And there are rumours that they'll run Surround from a single Card.

I expect that the HDMI port will be cloned out of one of the DVI ports, so it'll be mixed-output single-card Surround, like EyeFinity was with two DVI + disport.

Just occurred to me that you say you've got monitor 1 on GPU 1, and monitors 2 and 3 on GPU 2. That's not how nVidia recommend you do it, but it appears to work, and you don't appear to have any issues that I don't recognise from my own experiences of Surround. For the record, though, nVidia recomme...

I'll try to deal with your issues one by one... with luck, others will chime in soon, but it takes time (usually allow 24-48 hours) for people to see a post and, if they have the relevant knowledge, post a reply. ;) 1) I've never used desktop gridding software, even with Surround. I rarely, if ever,...

In my spare time (what little of it there is) I'm planning out a couple of little games. They weren't going to be 3D, as I suck at modelling things much more complex than a cube. ;)

Unlike EyeFinity, which has hotkey-switching of modes working, nVidia Surround does not. You either have to swap in and out from the nVidia Control Panel, or find a way of doing it via scripting (which I haven't had the time or inclination to do, I just stay in Surround all the time) or you could us...

I couldn't even get 295.73 to give me the option to enable Surround! It just wasn't available in the nVidia Control Panel.

The big issue with nVidia Surround is the SLI requirement. Games that don't like SLI will run terribly in Surround (see: Amnesia: The Dark Descent). PSU should be OK. Of the MSI/EVGA thing, I'd probably go MSI. The TwinFrozrII, despite it's stupid name, is a pretty good cooler. :) I can't help think...

I game in 2D on nVidia Surround. No interest in 3D, either. ;) I want to try AMD, but that's mostly because AMD actually seem to be taking EyeFinity seriously, while nVidia have so far shown no such attitude toward Surround... I'm left with the impression that for nVidia, at the minute, Surround is ...

My bet is that Asus have pulled cards from retailers due to this problem:

Seems like the heatsink is so heavy that it will pull off the GPU, resulting in insane temps...

If you can find a reference design one, Sapphire, MSI and Powercolor have served me well in the past. That said, so have XFX... for two cards anyway. The third was an epic headache and their service/support was abysmal. Gigabyte, like XFX and Gainward/Palit have a nasty habit of altering the referen...

I think that is to do with the way that AMD released the VRAM info, which they never used to allow to be visible to software other than the driver. nVidia Surround reports as 2GB in monitoring software on my 2GB GTX460s, not 4GB.

Interesting, though.

7970s having issues with drivers? :~ Then surely the 7950s will do as well? Haha, um, while I'd normally recommend Asus wholeheartedly, that particular card appears to have a few issues - the back of the card behind the GPU core breaks 110*C, which it shouldn't do. Word is that Asus knows about it and will sort it for later batches, but it's an oversight that shouldn't have...

I'd only get XFX if their US warranty/support is a lot better than their UK one.
