Forum: Multi-Monitor Gaming   Topic: Nvidia can now do 4 -5 Screen Surround!

Can anyone confirm whether a 5x1 portrait surround setup can run off one nvidia card e.g. from either a single 5 port 970, 980 or 980ti?

I currently run a 5x1 portrait setup on AMD and would be tempted to run it off a single 980ti if possible.

If anyone can confirm that would be appreciated.

Yep that is the stuttering I'm speaking of - decent fps reported but feels like half of that. For me the 6900 series crossfire eyefinity combination has been fairly good in that regard. Certainly the popular games (where AMD has put a decent amount of resource into the driver and CAP) have run well ...

I like to think I am quite sensitive to micro stuttering. Crossfire eyefinity with 5800 series was a complete and utter disaster when I tried it. My 6900 series testing with 3 screen eyefinity has been far better. I don't play a huge list of games but the ones I have tried (which are fairly popular ...

[quote]Who knows, maybe there is an issue with the sandy bridge platform for crossfire and bf3. Playing BF3 on a single monitor with crossfire enabled works just fine. For me this micro stutter problem appears in every single game I play, when both eyefinity en crossfire are enabled. But you may be...

Interesting post. I'm on the 1366 platform with 2 x16 lanes and for 3 screen eyefinity have found cross/tri/quad fire to run games smoothly. Initially bf3 was a bit of a mess but driver updates sorted that out. With quadfire running 5x1 bf3 is quite smooth as well. Who knows, maybe there is an issue...

As long as each of those GPUs has 2gb vram then that should be viable for 5x1 for most games. 11.5 megapixels is a lot to push tho. 6970 trifire (6990+6970) or quadfire (2x6990s) should be considered. If you're wanting to play bf3 on 5x1 I recommend 2 6990s. 5x1 actually provides situations where th...

One 6990 should run 5760x1080 eyefinity quite well at high settings. I have 2x6990s in crossfire driving my 5x1P setup. I did try 3x1P lastnight (3600x1920) and it ran beautifully at all ultra with deferred AA high and SSAO on. Truly stunning performance with no stutter at all. All GPUs close to max...

Could possibly be one or more of the DP cables. I have the same monitors hooked up to one of my 6990s and had an issue with a couple of mini DP to DP cables and adapters early on. Could eventually get it working but as you say once eyefinity went down it was a bit painful to get it back up into 5x1....

Using the Asus DCII 6950/6970 (triple slot card with 4 x DP and 2 x DVI) will sort the issue if you hook up DP monitors to the DP ports only. Likewise hooking up 3 DP monitors to the DP ports on the 6990 will sort the issue too. I have 5 DP monitors hooked up to my 6990. I have no tearing on the 4 m...

Thanks for the update re driver support going forward.

Have to say I am very impressed with the performance improvements of 11.8 preview over 11.4 preview for 5x1.

I can confirm that the 11.8 preview driver released today supports 5x1 eyefinity. It also fixes the vsync chequerboard bug with dx10/11 games and crossfire-eyefinity. A big plus as it now allows that vertical tearing in portrait mode to be dealt with. Can be found here: http://support.amd.com/us/kba...

No doubt you mean 11.7 and 11.8 preview drivers.

I can confirm that the 11.8 preview driver supports 5x1 eyefinity. Finally more than one driver to choose from for my 6990!

Great news AMD has released the 11.8 preview driver which supports 5x1. I found out about it here: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33980089 Have installed and it works well. Also it removes the checkerboard bug for dx10 games when vsync is enabled. Just tried some BFBC2 with vsync on in...

Yeah it boggles my mind as well. Also I have a 6990 in my rig now (trying it out, still deciding whether to keep it or not) and if I hadn't found this now officially unavailable driver I would be stuffed. The 10.12a hotfix driver won't install for a 6990 because the driver pre-dates the card! And th...

I'm happy to report that I'm sitting in front of a 5x1P eyefinity setup using a driver other than the 10.12a hotfix! I had read in a couple of places in the last month or so that 5x1 was enabled in the 11.4 preview driver. So I grabbed the 11.4 preview off AMD's site and had no luck - it didn't allo...

I'm not sure off hand. The Asus page I went to doesn't tell me but some sites are reporting that they are 1.2, such as:

http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/asus_hd6950_2gb_directcu_ii_review,2.html

Yeah if the MST hubs ever materialise that will allow for some insane configurations.

Yeah they're great cards and they run very cool. At 6950 stock of 1.1v it doesn't get hotter than 59-60C under full load for hours on end. At 1.175v (flashed w/ 6970 bios) it doesn't go over 65 at full load. Very impressed with the card. The only blemish is that smartdoctor is the only way to increa...

Couldn't agree more. More than 6 months since the 5x1 hotfix driver came out and nothing since. 5x1P is really awesome and AMD can really deliver on the hardware front it's just a pity they often let themselves down on the driver side.
