Just saw this thread and yes, there's definitely lots of people out here still playing Kotor, or revisiting it occassionally.

I do have a widescreen monitor at 1680*1050 resolution, and I'd love to get KOTOR to work (better) with it.

This thread looks like the best bet, but I'm not having much luck.

The resolution works but the HUD is still messy, with the 'lower right corner' options being roughly center screen.

Have I missed a step?

1: Got the GUI files and put them in the override folder.
2: Got the UNWIS patcher and added: 1680*1050 resolution to the 1024*768 interface.
3: Started the game.

Now 1680*1050 is a resolution option but it doesn't seem to make any effect wether I use 1024*768 or 1680*1050 reolution; in either case the HUD icons are almost mid-screen.

The HUD graphic files in the override folder are all named 800x600, while I'd guess they should be called 1024*768, does that have anything to do with it?

What am I missing? Some help would be great!

I have read through all of the suggestions and tips on this page and have tried virtualy all of them... I am still left with some issues however
I have manually gone through the K-GFF process of editing all the LEFT values above 700 to +342 points higher than the reflected number...I should mention that when running the uniws patch I opted for the 1024x768 interface option. In addition to this I removed the previous patch attempts to reflect the default 800 x 600 resolution in the two boxes for imputting width and height. Perhaps I was supposed to imput 1024 x 768 in these two boxes???... If so I have not done that. So in the event of that recomendation I will be Sure to advise of the result. Now, with me selecting the 1024x768 interface I basically subtracted 1024 from 1366 leaving me with the difference of the above mentioned 342. since my monitor is already a 768 height I did not adjust any of the "TOP" values. (I am hoping that was the correct idea) Now having done all that I saved the file and imput it into the override file and started the game. The game was posting at a handsome 1366x768 res and all the hud items were neatly in there appropriate locations...drum roll please! THE TEXT FROM THE CONVERSATIONS WAS STILL MISSING!? Ugh! every thing looks fine with exception to this which we all know renders the game unplayable. So What am I to Do. I have since removed the file from the override folder and am not sure what to proceed with next... Any imput would be appreciated! :D

Try this:

1) Remove the override files
2) Unpatch KOTOR
3) Repatch to 1680x1050 with the 1024x768 Inteface option.
4) Then, copy the Override files back

It worked for me the first time, at several resolutions...

What is the native res of your panel? Also, I'm not sure why you would be editing the files yourself, as we've posted HUD files for all resolutions

I'm surprised you went to all that trouble, yet didn't bother to read either the game info page or the hacks for KOTOR page.

It is stated on both those pages, and in this thread, that 1360/1366x768 has the missing text issue and this is not fixed by the HUD edit. The only solution is to setup a higher custom resolution and use video card scaling to downscale to your native resolution. This is why files for the non-standard resolution 1530x864 are provided. 1530x864 is a relatively uniform 1/8 res increase and looks decent when downscaled to 1360x768.

For instructions on how to setup a custom resolution in your video card drivers, search for threads on that topic.

The HUD graphic files in the override folder are all named 800x600, while I'd guess they should be called 1024*768, does that have anything to do with it?

What am I missing? Some help would be great!

The 800x600 files are the menu backgrounds, not the HUD files. UniWS only overrides the size of the HUD, everything else defaults to the lowest size available when the resolution isn't recognized. Hence when the game is patched with UniWS it ends up using the 800x600 backgrounds. The files are correct.

Assuming your description is accurate, you put the files in the correct directory, and you really did run both 1680x1050 and 1024x768 (and didn't merely think you did) then the only possible explanation is that you accidentally patched to the 800x600 interface instead of the 1024x768 one.

If you had patched to 1024x768 and put the 1680x1050 interface files in the correct directory, the the lower icons would actually be off screen when running 1024x768. If they're visible, but not aligned in 1024x768, that can only mean it's running the 800x600 interface, which means you selected the wrong option in UnisWS.

There is a simple way to figure out if this is indeed what you did. Go to you KOTOR directory, there you will see several files ending in ".undo#" (where # is an actual number; ignore the undom# ones). If they are named swkotor.undo# instead of swkotorb.undo#. then you patched to 800x600.

Thanks for the help, all of you.

Unfortunately, I still have the interface skewed.... correction!

I did get it to work. Jay! :D

The problem was, it appeared to 'hiccup' a little, not triggering a resolution change when I chose 1024*768 or 1680*1050. However, I switched to 1280*960, THEN to 1680*1050 and it worked.

Which really is weird, but anyway, it's fine now.

Thanks for adding this stuff, guys. Widescreen gaming is where it's at! :D

Actually, I had the same problem. I thought it was just me. I had to pick a resolution other than the 1024x768, or the one I really wanted. I had to get it to switch res to something else first, and then switch to the res I wanted (2560x1600).

it is a unique 1366x768... Problem is my screen goes nuts if I lower it to 1360x768... so that was the only way I knew how. because I did not see res files for that unique resolution. By the way thanks for the response :)

So I have undone my patch, and redone the patch at 1530x864...I have already tried this and it did not work previously. I also imput the hud files for the 1530x864 resolution in my override folder. There is one thing however. I do not know how to "downscale" my resolution to 1366x768, and cant seem to find anything in the forums (I have a set of 9800GTX's).
I am also curious as to whether or not that 1530x864 resolution should be adjusted a little to compensate for my slightly larger resolution. I am using a 46 inch (VIZIO GV46L HDTV10A ) and it has a native resolution support for PC's via the VGA imput of 1366x768. The problem is if I use widows to adjust my resolution to 1360x768 it cuts 3 inches off the left side of my screen...and even if I use the nvidia control center to re-adjust my monitor position it leaves the bar there. So my resolution must be left at the native res. I am not sure what it means to downscale my resolution to a resolution my monitor inhearently supports, but if it will alow me to play KOTOR in widescreen mode then great. I really would hate to adjust somthing in my drivers of firmware for the sake of a game, if it is going to interfere with bluray and HD DVD playback or any other game for that matter. but if by "downscalling" the graphics card it allows me to enjoy the best of both worlds then I am eager to try it out. I just don't know how. Thanks again for all your help!
