Stevedroids original message. "The only solution is to setup a higher custom resolution and use video card scaling to downscale to your native resolution. This is why files for the non-standard resolution 1530x864 are provided. 1530x864 is a relatively uniform 1/8 res increase and looks decent when downscaled to 1360x768."

For instructions on how to setup a custom resolution in your video card drivers, search for threads on that topic.

Thank you for the response...So, does the 1530x864 need to be increased a little to compensate for the 1366x768 native res of my display? Also, if you have any insite into downscalling it would be most appreciated. Don't you also have a 1360x768 display? Thanks again.

Well, that's one way to boost your post-count.

What Does Post Count have to do with anything? Does it earn me something or something???

Not that I'm aware of - here. On some forums it does earn you things: access to avatars, custom titles, ... A high post count is also often seen as a sign of a regular member, perhaps a more knowledgeable one - or someone who posts meaningless stuff every chance they get. Because of this many forums frown on posting several times in a row. I don't know what the stance is here - I'm kinda new here myself.

And each of you now has +1 post count (not that it matters). Can we get this back on topic? And, yes, edit your posts when you can...

Hello, I tried the wonderful wide screen patching program and I was so pleased with the results that I recieved after having decided to dust off my KotOR CD that I felt the need to register to thank you all for allowing me to enjoy it on my widescreen resolution monitor, and indeed you do have my deepest gratitude :).

But I have an issue that I was wondering if you could help me with? I browsed through all the postings of this topic, and am fairly certain that it has not been adressed, but I have been known to error in regards to matters such as this in the past, so if it was already answered I appologize. I am running the game in my native resolution of 1440 x 900 and everything--the screen, the HUD, the text--is working great . . . until I get to a movie. Upon every prerendered movie, all I recieve is a black screen--but I hear the sounds fine. I went to a different resolution, to see if the problem was a software related one or pertaining to my videocard, but I was able to see it fine at 1280 x 1024 and below, if, albeit, a little distorted from stretching. So I went and opened the patched .exe in a hex editor and went to see if the resolution values were correct for the lines adressed in step 3, and sure enough, they were. I am curious if anyone else has ran into this problem and any help would be appreciated very much.

Again, excellent work on the patching program and my thanks once more.

Try to take a screenshot during the movie.

Paste it in a paint program and see what the size is for the picture.

I am using a 46 inch (VIZIO GV46L HDTV10A ) and it has a native resolution support for PC's via the VGA imput of 1366x768.

Ah. Video card scaling is only available when connected via DVI.

You're out of luck then, sorry. With your current display, and your current method of connection, there is no known way for you to play the game in widescreen. You'll have to stick with playing it in 1024x768 and using your TV aspect settings to pillarbox it.

I do have a 1360x768 display, I'm very suprised your display supports 1366x768 and not 1360x768. 1366x768 is not a VESA standard resolution, while 1360x768 is VESA standard. Of the three 1366x768 TVs I've used, they all supported the VESA standard 1360x768 and then just had an unnoticable border of 3 pixels on either side. That has nothing to do with KOTOR though, it's just an observation.

PS no offense, but I'm surprised you obviously spent so much on your PC with those specs, but then got a relatively cheapo TV.

Ref post for outdated method.

The HUD does not scale which will lead to less screen coverage in certain resolutions.

4:3

16:9

16:10

Tooltips do not display in widescreen resolutions.

4:3

16:10

The HUD and in-game two-dimensional elements do not stretch or scale. The backgrounds on the in-game menu screens scale and stretch depending on the resolution.

4:3

16:9

16:10

Hor + in widescreen resolutions.

4:3

16:9

16:10

Stevedroid,

I have since hooked up to my TV via the DVI to HDMI cable and am having impressive results with video games and videos...basic vista use (email, web browsing, etc., very out of focus though :( ???) I don't really care as long as I can Play the KOTOR in widescreen...I can Select any and all resolutions via the DVI hook up all the way up to 1920x1080...I for the sake of being near to my native resolution elected to use the 1360x768 resolution through the DVI cable. But it does not seem to be working. in fact when I go to the grapics option and then try to select the resolution it is just an empty box. I have deleted everything out of the override folder and uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I have also undone the patch and re-patched it with the 1530x864 resolution...I then downloaded and unzipped the HUD files for the same resolution and put them into the override file...I am still not quite sure what down scaling my graphics adapter means but I have it set to 1360x768 in the Nvidia control panel. I then put the game in Windows XP service pack two compatibility mode and ran it as an administrator and the bottom line is that I still have a streched 4:3 aspect ratio game only now the Hud is all screwy and in the center portion of the screen. Do I need to uninstall again and go through the process of a reg edit and completly remove any trace of this game? Or am I just doomed until I get a TV with a higher native res and or VESA support... Thanks again for all your help :)
