I've got a pretty lame HDTV made by a company called Insignia that refuses to offer me any kind of support. The highest resolution it will support as a monitor is 1360x768, and it will only work properly when connected by VGA rather than HDMI.
My video card has DVI output, so in order to use this resolution I have to use a DVI-VGA adapter. I have all my Source engine games start up with the option -height 1360 -width 768. However, unless I physically disconnect both my TV/monitor and VGA adapter from my video card, the games will force it into a resolution of 640x480. It must remain disconnected while I launch the game until it has loaded.
Is there some way around this? I'm guessing the game checks to see whether or not the selected resolution is supported by my monitor and with the VGA adapter it assumes it's not... Can I stop it from checking at all? It's a pain in the neck to have to disconnect my monitor every time I load up Half-Life 2 or CS: Source.
Thanks in advance!
