I just installed this puppy and naturally I visited this page immediatly to get it in widescreen. However I'm having similiar results as some other posters.

There is simply no way to change the resolution. All settings in the config file does not have an effect. I just starts in 640x480. I cannot even set it to a standard resolution like 1600x1200, no changes works!

I really need help here... I want to play it so badly!

EDIT:

BTW, here is a console dump when trying to set a custom res:

What OS are you using?

I don't have time now, but I'll give it a shot in XP/Win7 tomorrow to see if I have the same problem. I don't remember having issues with setting custom resolutions the last time I played Doom 3, but that was unpatched, soo...

Doom 3 isn't that old, it shouldn't be a problem there...

Windows 7 is basically Vista (I recently took my Vista 64 rigs to Windows 7...) so I'll give it a shot on that and report back on his it goes.

Yeah I know.. Not that old. But still, I have tried pretty much everything i found on the net and I simply cannot get this to work. It seems to be a common problem but everyone else seems to find solutions for it.

I will be waiting for your results :)

OK, I just tested retail unpatch Doom 3 on Windows 7 x64 and it works fine. If settings don't stick, try running it in Administrator mode? Or don't use the console and edit the DoomConfig.cfg file manually, then set it to read only.

Just waiting for the Doom 3 patch to download - were patches ever that small? But the server is really sluggish. More info when I've testing 1.3, 1.31 and RoE too.

edit:

Tried it with patch 1.3, 1.3.1 and RoE... all work fine. I dunno what I'm doing that you're not, save editing the cfg files manually. I always prefer to do it that way...

They're all about 1.5MB PNGs, so they might take a while to load. Have to say, installing Doom 3 again made me remember just why I couldn't stand that game... way too dark and repetitive.

Anyway. If I can be of any more assistance, I will try. I don't know how much more help I can be, though. :(

edit 2:

Only lines I alter in DoomConfig.cfg are
r_customWidth (set to 1920)
r_customHeight (set to 1200)
r_mode (set to -1)
r_aspectRatio (set to 2)

I forgot to alter r_aspectRatio for the screenshots, but there is no difference aside from some extra horizontal - games still works at set resolution.

Thank you for taking the time to test this.

I have manged to play it in a custom resolution now but I have to set the values in the console every time I play. It worked one time when i ran the game in administrator mode though. It's really weird.

And this also didn't work at all with my mods. Aspect ratio is completely messed up with Brilliant Bloom mod. So no mods seems to work properly with widescreen... At least I have yet to find one. And if I cant play the game with up-to-date graphics I think I wont bother at all... To bad :(

Can I have a link to the mods you're using? I'll give 'em a shot.

Can you not set the .cfg file to Read Only once you've edited it? That worked in the past for me with one game that stubbornly kept trying to reset resolution to defaults...

I have tried that, and it sort of works. Now without any mods it seems to work. However menus are still being rendered in 640x480.

Also, Anti-Aliasing doesn seem to work but that is another issue...

I was using this mod:

http://doom3.filefront.com/file/;63923

And also this
