Read Full Detailed Report - Penumbra

Penumbra: Overture/Penumbra: Black Plague
This stealth/adventure game series was developed by Frictional Games.
There are things I need of you. Things you may not understand, and may not wish to do, but please, do not make the same mistakes I did.
My father, Howard, sent me a letter last year that led me into all this. To think that such a small event can change your life in such a violent way.
Without this knowledge, without this foundation, you could not have the will to do what I must now ask of you.

Penumbra: Overture is a first person action/adventure game from Frictional Games and Strategy First. You play as an individual named Phillip, who has received a letter from his deceased father, asking him to destroy a set of notes. Instead of doing so, he reads the notes, and travels to an abandoned iron mine in Greenland to follow the clues in the notes. Penumbra: Overture has a physics based engine, and features lots of sophisticated physics-based puzzles, much more so than in Half-Life 2. Nearly every object can be grabbed, pushed, pulled, dragged, thrown, and/or otherwise manipulated. Combat is also physics-based, and it is often possible to use the physics to set up traps for or to distract your enemies.

Is there any difference at all between the WS support in this episode, and the information I give in my DR for the first episode?

Only 1920x1200 is not native.

There are rendered Hor + cut-scenes along with the stretched FMVs.

Ok. One other question:
Would you say this is a full-blown sequel to Penumbra: Overture? Or is it more like these are two separate halves of the same game (akin to the Sam & Max Episodes)?

Closer to this. It was going to be a trilogy but got cut down to this.

In that case, in addition to considering that widescreen support is basically the same, I think the best way to go about this is to just call the game Penumbra. Your DR is more complete, so I'll link the MGL to this one.

Just one thing to adjust - in the version section, state that the report is based on Black Plague, but is believed to apply to both episodes. Also, in the resolution section, just note that in Penumbra: Overture's, you need the .ini solution for res's above 1280x800.

Grade is B, 100%.

I tweaked the report. Please look it over for anything amiss.

5040x1050 is a no-go, the game freaks out it you set your resolution wider than 4096 pixels.

Grade: B-

Stretched HUD, 2D elements, FMVs, and lack of TH support are blemishes.

CCE: 100%
