Couldnt find a thread about this issue, so i thought i would just warn you all.

Guess most of us are looking forward to Battlefield 3, right? Nice graphics, eyefinity out-of-the-box etc.. It all sounds GREAT. But..!
You will have to use Origin if you want to play Battlefield 3 - its not a choice.. you cannot play it without Origin (Origin is a competitor to Steam).

Read the EULA before accepting anything - it says:

"2. Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you."

The first thing that came to my mind, where: Bastards!

Its like putting up a webcam in your home. Eventho you might not have something to hide, it is invasive in my opinion.

EA havent changed the EULA - i downloaded the installer just before posting, and copied the EULA from the installer.

In an age where data is king, I can't imagine a company not going in this direction. Marketing is so big that gathering data about how individuals use their systems just seems like the next logical step. But, if you want to play you gotta do it; that I don't necessarily agree with.

Steam does the same thing but Steam Asks you if you would like to participate.
Origin doesn't ask... it is basically saying that if you use our program than you will participate.
So if you want to play BF3 you will download Origin, and you will participate in our invasion of privacy.
I have Origin installed on my PC now but I dont have it start when I load up, however I have steam start everytime I turn on my PC.
I dont have anything to hide but much like most people I put clothes on not because I want to hide anything but because I like my privacy and I would like to choose who knows what I do with my life/time/body.

The in-game advertising (makes me want to puke, by the way) makes something like this all but inevitable.

That's probably another thing that I have issues with. I want them to ask if I want to submit info about how I use my computer. I don't want to be forced into a room with cameras all around watching if I sneezed, fart, cough, or pick my nose, and at what time of the day I did it too.

EA needs to realize that the only way to compete with Steam as a digital distrib platform is do something better than what Steam is capable of, or match it. Until then, Origin will continue to be inferior to Steam in my eyes.

Its not the same as having a webcam in every room of my house seeing me naked or something. So i dont care as i have nothing to worry about on my PC, EA are a global company not a spyware program trying to get your credit card details.

I think you are missing the point.
The point is that you dont mind while others do. So if asked then you would say "yes I would like to participate" while others would say No.
The point is that you dont have a choice.
And yes it is like someone watching you pee... its literally EA watching every move you make on the web.
Very "similar" to someone watching every move you make in the privacy of your home.

I dont like this, it should be optional imo.
