[quote]Second,.... I occasionally (and at no specific given time in game) CRASH TO DESKTOP (I realize a lot of people have this problem). Many people have mentioned the "4gb fix" and how that helps stop/lessen the CRASH TO DESKTOP problem. How does one go about enabling/utilizing the "4gb fix" or "LAA" as I've also heard it referred to?
Use this tool: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013
Just place the .dll and the .exe in any folder and start the .exe
[h2]For people that have to use the 4GB launcher and still want to use CrossFire and/or other Tools with Auto Detection[/h2]
The 4GB launcher renames the TESV.exe to TESV.exe.4gb, which will make all tools and CrossFire profiles not working. The solution is to use the newest version of the 4GB launcher v1.4 (or higher) and use the following command parameters to start it:
Code:
Skyrim4GB.exe -laaexe .TESV.exe
It is very important, that you do not place the skyrim4gb.exe and the skyrim4gb_helper.dll in the game's directory, cause it would overwrite your original TESV.exe!
I recently tried the 4GB launcher, in conjunction with the ati 4G dll (I would have preferred the command line switches to your launcher, but I am a linux guy and Win7 wouldn't let me attach options to the symbolic link I created to start the launcher.. )
My setup is Skyrim 1.1.21, Radeon 11.11c, Sapphire 6850x2 (1G), AMD

I was initially testing crossfire on a single screen with the 11.11c. It *seemed* like I was getting fps improvement (fraps) in Whiterun on subsequent A/B loads (against crossfire turned off). The problems began when I went to test a 5760x1080 setup. FPS seemed good when facing a certain direction and runnign forward in whiterun, but when changing facing, I was getting severe stutter, which led me to believe it was doing some swapping. Perhaps crossfire requires additional memory of tesv.exe?
So thus I installed the 4G patch and reverted to 1920x1080. The problem I was getting was flashing of the menus and flashing of parts of my character (head). I did not do extensive testing to figure out what else was broken.
Does the latest 4G launcher only work with Skyrim 1.2? Or was I doing something wrong?
I can run skyrim w/o crossfire on "high" (minus AA), and get mid20s-45 in town, 45 outside, and 60 inside. Trying to run CF with eyefinity seems to require the 4GB launcher, and that is not working for me. without artifacts. Its as if only one GPU is rendering menus and certain actors in game, causing them to flash.
The graphics in this game are nothing to write home about, difference between high an ultra is small, I'm starting to think that trying to get CF/eyefinity to work with patches is not worth the time to get the same framerate with just a bit better detail. As I can run on high with one card, I may give up on CF /eyefinity.
Edit: I just did some more testing in 1920x1080. There is 0% crossfire scaling. I can run the game in ultra (high detail shadows), with 30-60fps on a single card. I give up.
