I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it isn't what they intended, and that it was an honest mistake.

It wasn't. If you look at their FAQ page from before the release, they already stated that the FOV will be vertically locked and the HUD will position itself right. Then upon release, it was broken. I don't think that was intended.



Nothing new for me then since I play at 16:9 already.

If you look at the shots they show. If you play in 16:9 already, nothing changed. If you play in 16:10, then you'll see less than you do now, and if you play in 4:3, you will see even less than 16:10.

It certianly does seem like an honest mistake...

But prefer malice over stupidity any day.

But i guess this leaves more time to play Call of Pripyat.

I'm very glad developers, including 2K Games are now taking the FOV issue as it relates to widescreen monitors seriously. It went from "We don't give a shit. Deal with it." to actually commenting right away that a fix is in the works. Hopefully it'll show up soon.

2K Games even posted a set of screenshots in their blog illustrating the difference to those who are unaware of what "FOV" is, which is proof that they admit its a bug (not a "design decision") and fully intend to fix it.

But it is vertically locked. It is some Hor+ and some Vert-. The changes may be minimal for WS, but they are monumental for EF/TH.

??? I think you two are going in the same direction here.

I think the community is going to be confused when they do release the patch for it, though. They're saying widescreen will see more/expand horizontally, but the problem is that if you use 16:9 already, it's correct. After they release the patch, 16:9 will look exactly the same as before. People who use 16:10 are now going to see both less horizontally and vertically, and 4:3 users will see even less than that. I think the wording will just confuse people upon release.

Well now you are confusing me :) Are you saying that when 2K releases this FOV patch we will get a patch that makes everything worse??

If I remember crrectly, I believe the "design decision" quote came from one of the 2k CEOs, not the developers themselves. The developers basically said "ignore what he said- we'll fix it" and then we got the patch.

the way the patched game will work is those with 4:3 screens won't see any difference. Those with 16:10 will see more to the left and right with the same vert resolution, and those with 16:9 will se even more still. Based on their own screenshots that seems to be what they were planning all along.

This is the opposite for BioShock 2.

If you use 16:9 already, you won't see any difference. If you use 16:10 or 4:3, you'll be seeing less than you do currently.





If you look at this one, notice how much more is visible on the top and bottom compared to 16:9.

Also take notice of the helmet position in the lower-left.




Now look at the helmet position here. The helmet position for 16:9 is the same.

The 4:3 view is now cropped on the top and bottom. It's also cropped on the left and right.

(The text is also backwards for 16:10 and 16:9)


Also, ignore the exact position of the red rectangles, you can tell they were just drawn quickly and not accurate. The intention is clear.



So you can see that if you use 16:9 already, nothing will change for you post-patch. If you use 4:3 or 16:10, you will now see less. :)

The good news is that triplehead should now see more, but I don't know about the HUD.
