Yeah, I tried this fix right when BF2 came out, It didnt do squat.

No matter what I do, the game will not run at 1680x1050. I'll try the res switcher and see if I can play enen if I can't use Xfire.

When I first hooked up my 2005FPW I crashed to the desktop. I had to do several things, not sure which one got it working but I finally did.

Went to C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2ProfilesLocalDefault and edit Video.con for line game.setGameDisplayMode to say game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 32 0

I made game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 32 0 the default line in the additional locations:
C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2modsbf2SettingsProfilesDefaultVideo.Con
C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2modsbf2SettingsProfilesDefaultVideoCustom.con
C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2modsbf2SettingsProfilesCustomVideo.Con
C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2modsbf2SettingsProfilesCustomVideoCustom.con

I then deleted all the folders/files in C:Documents and SettingsUserNameMy DocumentsBattlefield 2modsbf2cache

I started the game via the BF2 shortcut with no additional command lines.
I then went to video settings and set it for the new LCD resolution support they added, 1280x1024@75Hz, that was actually the highest resolution I could set it too.

I quit the game, then made my shortcut the following:
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

My monitor is also set to the native 1680x1050@60H

Hopefully that helps a bit. That's just some of the information I read in the solution thread on this site for BF2. I had to piece it together because a couple of people said you had to change the FOV, but doing that will get you banned.

Since the 1.03 patch, the server browser has a favorite listing. I just populated that with my favorite servers. If you leave Xfire running and you join BF2 via it's normal shortcut instead of Xfire, the servers you play on will be added to your recently played list in Xfire too, then you can add those to your favorites in Xfire. I'll start Xfire and see who is on my favorite servers, luckily my friends play there too, so I rarely have to write down an IP to join my friends. Then I'll fire up BF2 and join them.
