Post subject:  Adding resolutions to Source Engine Games???

Hi I just bought a 2007WFP and its a great monitor but in cs: source, hl2, dod: s, etc. the only resolution that comes up under 16:10 is the native 1680x1050
my computer can't handle source games at 1680x1050 and I get about 10 fps. So how can I add more 16:10 resolutions that are of lesser valvue.

Since 4:3 has so many options to choose from 800x600, 1024x768, 1028x1024, etc. there must be a way to add more to 16:10 right?

Someone please help

Every resolution that you can choose in your windows desktop is also availible in the Source engine without the need of any modification. So what you need to do is to add the custom res you want to use in Source to your windows desktop. Check this out if you have a nvidia card: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nvidia:_Add_Custom_Desktop_Resolution

If you have an ATi card you can try Powerstrip. I don't know if you can add custom res with an ATi driver. Maybe you can do it with ATi tray tools but that is only a guess. Don't shoot me if i'm wrong :D.

Take a look in this thread to find different res: [url]http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/#comment-]

Do I really have to repeat myself? :D
I actually gave you a link where you can find different 16:10 resolutions.

You should go for 1280x800 if you are doing so badly at 1680x1050.

If that's still too high, try 1024x640. Also, when adding custom resolutions in nvidia drivers, be sure to add three of them (1280x800x32bit color, 1280x800x16bit color, 1280x800x8bit color). Also, you'll need to use nvidia scaling instead of monitor scaling, since your 2007 probably won't know how to scale custom resolutions.

The exception is 1280x720 HD resolution, which the 2007 should know how to scale, but only if you add it in a special way (you have to tell your nvidia drivers that your DVI device is an HDTV, then select 720p when it asks you for a signal, after this 1280x720 will be permanently added into windows as resolution and your monitor will know how to scale it, so after this you can uncheck the "treat as HDTV" box).
