Hi, please help me understand something. I have a Dell 20" that has a native resolution of 1680X150 (thats a 16:10 aspect ratio). Now a lot of games I want to play either don't support this, or wont run well in this resolution. So I am trying to find the closest reslution that is still a 16:10 aspect ratio, and just let aspect scaling handle the rest. A lot of games seem to support 1280X768. So I tried resizing a 1680X1050 image to this rez and apparently it is a 5:3 ratio! Problem is, I have no clue how close that is too 16:10 Is there a program/website out there that has detailed information on non-stardard resolutions like this? is there a resolution that will scale better than 1280X768?? :?: I want to avoid image stretching as much as possible, maybe even altogether. Thanks in advance for any help! |

Thanks, that first link is exactly what I was looking for! I checked the faq, but didn't see all that great info hiding in the features section.  One more question: If a 16:10 rez like 1280X800 is not in my display properties control panel does that mean it is not supported by my video card and or display? More specifically, is there any danger (of hardware damage) in adding a custom resolution? |

It shouldn't cause any trouble. Go for it. Keep the lcd refresh rate at a maximum of 60hz. |

4:3 (4/3) = 1.333 5:4 (5/4) = 1.25 16:10 (16/10) = 1.6 If you divide the horizontal part of the resolution by the vertical part you get the aspect ratio of that resolution, e.g 1600x1200 (1600/1200 = 1.333) so 1600x1200 is a 4:3 aspect ratio 1280x1024 (1280/1024 = 1.25) so 1280x1024 is a 5:4 aspect ratio 1680x1050 (1680/1050 = 1.6) so 1680x1050 is a 16:10 aspect ratio |
