Just installed and tried the DX9 version since I haven't upgraded to Vista yet. I don't see my resolution of 1680 x 1050 as an option. I tried the game at 1280 x 960 with options turned on high. My poor Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.0Ghz, 8800GTX, 2GB PC2 6400 was coughing along at about 30fps on average. The game doesn't look good compared to any other AAA title released on the PC within the last year. Shoot, I think Half-life 2 and Doom 3 look better and run 10xs better than this. Well I originally came here to look for a widescreen solution but after several minutes of play the game locks up and have to hard boot my machine. Tried it three times with same results. I think this demo is going in the recycle bin. |

wow thats bad if your system is pushing 30fps on the DX9 versioin. I hit mid 20's on average. Did you get the brand new drivers for your 8800?? Benchmarks had this thing flying with those (may have been the DX10 version) Out of curiosity, why didn't you get the Dx10 version? I guess you dont have Vista yet? |

Yeah I'm still using Windows XP, was waiting for better drivers before switching to XP. I'm using 158.22 nvidia forceware drivers. They have been pretty solid on demo loops of 3dMark 06 and STALKER, Oblivion, R6Vegas. Maybe this game just doesn't like these drivers? |

They released new drivers at the same time they released the game demo, they are optimized for the game. Thats all I know. So if you didnt just update, that means there are some better drivers out there for you. It may be for the DX10 version only tho, not DX9. |

Yeah I get the feeling this game was optimized for the DX10 setup, as the benchmarks I've seen show 30-90 FPS with the 8800GTX in DX10 mode, either that or Nvidia's Vista driver optimizations need to trickle down to the XP drivers to get the best performance out of the game. Haven't tried it myself yet, was holding out for a multiplayer demo as that's what I'm more interested in. |

Don't even think about Vista using the 158.14 or 158.28 drivers on Vista, they're all crap. I wrote the thread "How-To: Install pesky 1xx.xx drivers in Vista" for a reason. I've had NOTHING but problems with these drivers on my brand freakin new 8600GTS. |

for the dx9 xp demo there is known compatibility problems with nvidia 158 series drivers and it will always hard lock, to fix this download these 160.03 drivers and all your problems with the game will disappear. Nvidia 160.03 drivers |

Now using the 160.03 Forceware Beta Drivers for XP, I no longer get any lock ups. The game runs pretty smooth. I'm getting over 60fps on default settings but 40fps when all settings are maxed out. The motion blur is really cool when fighting the boss characters. I'm not too impressed with the fire effects. The game still doesn't seem to be as beautiful as say Call of Juarez on DX9 but much better looking than I noted on previous drivers. I'm going to keep playing it and see how it plays out. Still no reason for me to switch over to Vista though. And where are our widescreen resolution? |
