Hi. I'm having trouble finding a way to use fixed aspect ratio scaling. My widescreen monitor doesn't have an option for it, so I guess I'm left with what the drivers can do.

For example, I want to play Starcraft Brood War, which runs at 640x480, with vertical black bars so as to preserve the 4:3 aspect ratio, but still making use of the monitor's area aside from the bars.

I'm under the suspicion ATI still hasn't done anything to help us in this regard, but I thought I'd ask for help anyway. I have a Radeon X1600XT 256 MB GDDR3...

Thanks! :)

Hmmm. How would Powerstrip help me? What custom resolution should I add? I don't get it... The way things are now, what happens is that the image gets stretched; the aspect ratio of the resolution isn't preserved.

Thanks.

That's correct sir. :D It's me with a 300mm F2.8 L lens worth 4500 euro.

You should be able to enable fixed aspect ratio scaling with Powerstrip aswell. I'm no expert though so perhaps someone with some more knowledge about Powerstrip can help you with that.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#.22Maintain_Aspect_Ratio_Scaling.22 says "Forthcoming"

What I know about Powerstrip is that it lets you forcibly add custom resolutions to the graphics driver. I don't know how that helps me in this case. Can it somehow force vertical black bars whenever a 4:3 resolution is used?

I got a 19" WS. I tried powerstrip and made it 4:3 ratio 1200x900. I set it and it appeared in my resolution options. Once I set it, half the screen was over the edge on the left side of my monitor, leaving this big black gap on the right. I tried repositioning it but it only goes so far, leaving part of the left still cut off. I then tried starcraft, but it runs in fullscreen using the whole screen not 4:3 ratio. I got no idea what to do....what am I doing wrong?
