Hey all. Completely new to these forums, got sent here to pose a question. I've recently picked up an Asus EEE (wonderful little laptop), and got rid of the Linux-based OS in favour of Windows XP. In any case, I've had a hit-or-miss time with games on it. It's native resolution is 800 x 480, which can be set to 800 x 600 and used via scrolling. The 800 x 480 is fine for working/websites/etc, so no issues there. My problem lies with a lot of games. I've installed Starcraft and Battlezone II which both run flawlessly and automatically scale themselves down to what I assume is 640 x 480.. in which case I get blackbars on either side of the screen (no problems with that here). Half-Life also runs well, however it runs in 800 x 600 and I end up losing the top 1/5 of the screen or so (also a non-issue for me really). This was also the case for Age of Empires 2 (although having to scroll in AoE2 to see menus/maps made the game fairly unplayable) Any other games I've tried, however, seem to be unable to support such a small resolution. Games like Rise of Nations, GTA2, Homeworld, Empire Earth and anything else relatively new-old-ish (that the system according to minimum specs should be able to handle with no flaws) all seem to have problems, or simply won't initialize without an error message. Is there anything I can do to scale the resolutions for these games down somehow? Maybe force them into a 640 x 480 resolution? Thanks |

Starcraft is native 640x480. There is no downscaling occuring. What is the minimum resolution listed in the games option menus? You should be able to select 640x480. Most new games today still support that res. |
