Edit: To get true 16:10 set the FOV Hack to X: 1.2, Y: 1.33 with your desktop and in game resolution being equal, eg 1920x1200 in game, 1920x1200 desktop. It is both vert- and also stretch depending on the aspect ratio of your desktop vs the aspect ratio of the in game resolution. So annoying. Feel free to ignore all the stuff below since it is incorrect. Thanks to eZ` for pointing out the error in my methodology in an easy to understand way. End Edit. Not wanting to step on anyone's toes, but mikeh and Paddy the Wak both incorrectly claim Far Cry 2 is vert- in widescreen in this thread: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/9578 Paddy used 1280x1024 which is 5:4, not 4:3. Using the non-4:3 aspect ratio of 1280x1024 has obviously confused all of us. Using 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 I can demonstrate that Far Cry 2 is stretch, not vert-. 1600x1200 (4:3) http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/7872/fc21600gu2.jpg 1920x1200 (16:10) Notice the obvious stretching. http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/3732/fc21920ej2.jpg 1920x1200 with 1600x1200 overlay http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/7083/fc2overlayzh1.jpg 1920x1200 w/ FOV hack set to X 1.2, Y 1.6 Hack: http://tocaedit.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=119 http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/4584/fc21920hacksf6.jpg 1920x1200 hack with 1600x1200 overlay http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/9379/fc2overlayhackzl7.jpg One thing to note: Since the FOV hack was built off incorrect assumptions (vert- instead of stretch), when you use "/" to disable it, it actually increases the Y FOV resulting in a rather weird FOV. |

It's not stretch. It gets your aspect ratio from your desktop resolution. Set your desktop resolution to the resolution you intend to run the game at before you load it and it won't stretch/squish anything. And it'll still be vert- for wider resolutions. |

I play at 1920x1200 and my desktop resolution is 1920x1200. Setting any game to 1280x1024 will result in vert+as it is a 5:4 resolution, and one game designers dont target. The proper way to test what Far Cry 2 does in widescreen is to use a 16:10 and a 4:3 with a common Y value, which is exactly what I have done. |

Ya it does stretch nice find, i had a hunch it was doing that and was a reason why the performance was being so praised (1920=1600). Ubi found the laziest ass way of improving performace. |

I'm not sure what to think about this anymore. After I saw this post I decided to check in-game for myself. Quick saved at a spot, quit back the menu, then ran it in 1400x1050, reloaded the save, took a screenshot, then reloaded in 1680x1050 and took a screen shot as well. Then I closed the game and checked my Far Cry 2 screenshots folder. The screenshot comparision showed it to be Vert-. As I was about to upload them, I realized that the file sizes were too big due to the format that Far Cry 2 itself saves them in. So I went and opened the game back up and retook the screenshots the same way as before, but saved them into Paint this time. After I was done, I closed the game again, and compared the screenshots... Strangely enough, this time, they were Stretched... I'm not sure what to think anymore......... Edit: I just checked my Far Cry 2 screenshots folder again, since Printscreening them into Paint, also activates the in-game screenshot folder as well... Paint gave me stretched screenshots, and Far Cry 2 itself came up with Vert- screenshots That's really weird. |

This is the important bit. If your desktop resolution is 1920x1200 then the game will select 16:10 as your AR. If you change the resolution to 1600x1200 then it will stay in 16:10, hence making it "squished" like in your screenshot (note NOT stretched to 1920, squished to 1600). Change your desktop res to 1600x1200 then load the game with it's res at 1600x1200. Take a screenshot. Exit the game. Change your desktop res to 1920x1200 then load the game with it's res at 1920x1200. Take a screenshot. Compare them. It will be vert- as the AR will be correct. For proof... 1920x1080 desktop, 1920x1080 ingame. Correct 16:9 AR used.... 1024x768 desktop, 1920x1080 ingame. Incorrect 4:3 AR used.... |

So it's a combination of vert- AND stretch. Damn, Ubi messed up the resolutions something fierce. Apologies to mikeh and Paddy the Wak. The 5:4 threw me off pretty bad. After some further testing with the desktop at 1920x1200 and the game at 1920x1200, setting the FOV Hack to X: 1.2, Y: 1.33 resolves both the vert- and the horz stretching. :D |

Sorry to revive an old thread, but is there a FOV hack that works with the latest 1.03 patch? I managed to find the 4.0 version of this hack but it still only supports up to 1.01. |

The latest patch for Far Cry 2 supports Hor+ in all widescreen resolutions natively, so the FOV hack is no longer needed. This includes Eyefinity, Surround, and TH2G with centered interface and HUD. Just enable the Widescreen option in the graphics option of the game. Details are available in the Detailed Report. |
