Post subject:  Eyefinity with different size monitors ?

You have all seen my Eyefinity thread I am sure with my 3 - 24" Dell2408WFP's, they are 1920x1200res each with a grand total now of 5760x1200 resolution.

Was wondering though, for my main/center screen if I can swap in my awesome display I really like my 27" Dell 2707WP, it is also the same res as the other monitors of 1920x1200. I have that one on my upstairs family computer, but how would that look in the center with the two sides the 24" displays ? I like the larger 27" look in WoW, even though same resolution as the other 24", it seems to be a little nicer ?

My main reason is, it seems after a week of Eyefinity gaming, and mainly WoW, that I still look at the center/main display by far the most, and the two sides are just there for glancing at once in awhile, and obviously they really help with immersion factor and really bring the game world to life like never before. But how would that work ? I know size and pixel wise would be funked up, but just curious how that would look or even work ?

I have a Dell 2707 for my center monitor, and a pair of Asus VW266h for side monitors. That's 27" with 25.5" sides, and all 1920 x 1200. And I feel the same, I'm concentrating on the center monitor, the side ones are just peripheral vision. I don't notice the size difference at all. In fact, my compulsiveness is with the color difference of the 2 brands and different type of panels.

With my setup, the difference is ~1/2 inch on top and ~1/2 inch on the bottom of the monitor. And there was no fricking way I was going to get 2 more Dell 27's just for gaming. Just don't have the deskspace, nor did I want to spend the extra one grand difference.

Anyway here are some pics with my setup. I have since done a little bit of calibrating so the color difference is a little better than shown in the pics. The Asus 25.5 tend to look way too blue out of the box when compared to the Dell.

check out my thread here with pictures; I like the 24" + 27" + 24" and will keep it this way :)

I see we both have the exact same Dell 27"...I totally love this display, very crisp and sharp image. And to me 27" seems the perfect size for 1920x1200res. Dell now has a newer 27" model, and I looked on e-bay and craigslist, but this 2707 is pretty hard to find anywhere ?

I truly think now that triple surround would look best with a large center display in Landscape, and the sides smaller in Portrait. I bet the best Eyefinity setup if AMD allowed it to work would be 20" + 30" + 20" for a grand total of 4960x1600res. You would still have an awesome center monitor at 30", but flip the 1600x1200res 20" in portrait mode.

But for now I also think 3 - 27" look the best in Eyefinity, I just love the 27" for 1920x1200res, so much better than 24", call me picky I know :p

I would bet that you don't notice the size difference during gaming either. I initially looked at the Dell P2310, because of the displayport, but decided against mixing the P2310's 1920x1080 with the 27's 1920x1200.

The 20" 30" 20" PLP combo would look great, but do many games let you select that kind of resolution?

Many games, the well-designed ones in particular, will just use the Windows resolution list as a list of selectable resolutions. So if you have the hardware to set up 4960 x 1600, chances are you can game with the same resolution.

Trouble is, 1600x1200 4:3 screens are becomming rare - certainly on this side of the pond...

That setup looks great to me. I guess I am more picky. I am spending a lot more to take my 2407/2408/2407 dell combo and upgrade it to 3x U2410's because I cant get the colors to match.

As long as I focus on the center screen I can not see the color difference, but I have a habit of looking between the screens a lot when there is not a lot of action going on and I see the color change and it bothered me enough to prompt the excess spending for a perfect setup.

Everybody tells me the U2410 is a wonderfull monitor though and that while I really liked the 2408 I used as a center monitor that its not good for gaming due to its input lag. I never noticed that lag/delay though.

Anybody have the details on the ultra thin bezel 23" samsungs that ATI is recommending to use with eyefinity?

Its going to be too late for me since I just placed my order but I am curious to see them and there price/stat info.

Where has ATI made recommendations on monitors to use?

ATI didn't exactly recommendations on monitors. But during the launch of Eyefinity, there were talks that ATI has partnered with some LCD makers who will be launching Eyefinity-friendly LCD's with thin bezels. The Samsung is supposedly due late this year.
