I have a sli mb that is 8x8 in sli. I want to get a 5970 for eyefinity but also want to have 1 other monitor for having ts or other things open on a fourth extended monitor. I have win7 pro 64bit. Can I mix gpu and put a 9600gt in the 2nd pcie slot or does it have to be ati? I have the 9600 gt now but would sell that for a cheap ati card. 2nd question is would it have to be a card from the 5000 series or could it be a cheap 4000 series card like a 4830 or another low power card. Thanks for the reply's.

I have run a 4th monitor from the IGP on my 790GX motherboard.

I also was able to run a 4th monitor from an ATI 4850 which I had in the 2nd PCI-e slot for BIOS flashing purposes while I had three monitors connected on Eyefinity.

It works in Windows 7 but not XP. I am not sure about Vista but I don't think it works in that either. XP can see the other graphics adapters but can't use them to power a display. Windows 7 can use them to power extended displays.

You should keep the Nvidia card because you can use it as a Physx PPU. It will work just might need a bit of messing around with drivers and patches.
