Made this thread here, so that I wouldn't derail the Q&A thread.

I have been noticing grey screen crash. It happens sometimes in games and benchmarks (with 9.10, 9.11, 9.12 and 9.12 hotfix). Turning off/deactivating ATI HDMI sound drivers seems to help this. There has been several reports of this issue on various forums and people think it relates to powerplay. A bios have also been created to remedy this issue for 5850. I wondered if ATI is working on this issue?

Here is some related threads:

and finally a bios for the 5850 that supposedly fixes this (from AMD developer central member):
Fixed *all* issues with Ati Radeon 5850 HD Graphics

Personally, I find this problem so severe that I consider it a deal breaker. I hope ATI are working on this. If there is a BIOS that ATI thinks might fix this, I am willing to flash my card with it :)

Update: I flashed the bios to this one:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/61848/ATI.HD5870.1024.091112.html

Had to reinstall drivers afterwards, since I went from Asus to ATI bios. So far, no vertical line crashes. :D

I am going to do some more testing and longer benchmarks to see if it holds :)

Edit:

It was holding through several runs of Furmark, 1.5 hour of RE5 loops, but it crashed after 10 minutes of gameplay in L4D2. :(

Dave, any new bios' to try?
