Im planning purchasing either a 5870 or 2 x 5770 in crossfire. The latter option being much cheaper and pretty much as powerful. However im unsure about a few things:

1) Can i run the cards in crossfire the use eyefinity across 3 monitors ( so each screen will be rendered by both gpus )? All 3 screens will be connected by displayport.

2) What is a good monitor ( to purchase 3 of ) currently available with display port between 24 and 26" in size? Response time and input lag being the most important things

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Eyefinity and crossifre doesnt work with the 5870's yet. It does work with the 5970 though so maybe consider that as its cheaper than 2 x 5870's anyway. You can't connect all 3 screens by displayport because the cards only have 1 displayport connection on them. The other two monitors need to be connected using the 2 x DVI or 1 x DVI 1 x HDMI combination.

If you get two cards you can't connect monitors to each card because the timing is different all monitors need to connect to 1 card only for eyefinity. The 5870 six edition (not released yey) has 6 mini displayport connections so you could use that with adapters to connect 3 displayport monitors.

A good 24" monitor with displayport is http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=corp&sku=467-4327.

Better to get 1 x 5870 than 2 x 5770

Well price was the main factor, however considering that crossfired cards wont do what i need then a 5870 will have to do!

Anyone got any recommendations as far as monitors go then ?

Sideeffect already made a suggestion:

A good 24" monitor with displayport is http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=corp&sku=467-4327.

And from my dealings with these Dells, I would concur.
