I have seen this twice now, once after leaving dirt 2 in replay mode for a while and today after loading blackshark (which btw only lets me go to 4800x1200). It happens on the left and right monitors I see these lines and the center monitor is just black. the monitor pluggen in to the DP is one of the two with lines. Anyone seen this before? the card a 5970 is not clocked but the computer is and has run fine at 3.7 with prime 95 tests. it gets to about 65deg.. Any ideas? |

BTW at this point the pc is dead, it needs a power reset and comes back fine.. |

Yeap i get that too, happens every now and then. I just reboot and all is well. Had that happen on my xfx 5870 and my sapphire 5970 |

I get it too. It's rare, but really annoying when it does happen. Driver issue I assume (no overclocking here). |

What your seeing is what happens when the GPU gets too hot! I always use around 45% to 50% maual fan speed control before going into a game. Setting up profiles makes it a snap to change fan speeds based on what your going to do. As for the autofan control it's more tuned to being quiet then functional. Deke |

Hi Deke, it might happen when you overheat but it isn't the only time. Just now I was trying to tweak my IL2 set up. I have been making minor changes then going in to IL2, running a track and checking the FPS. The last one I did was turn ON AA to 4x. I played a track and within a few seconds it happened. I cant believe that < 4 seconds the card went from 54 deg C to overheating. The fan is on 40% manual. There is certainly some other reason in my case why it happens. Thanks, |

What power supply are you running? Sounds more like a power issue from what you describe, if it can shut down in 4 seconds. |

Hi Gilly, it's a new machine and they supplied me with a corsair hx650. The 5970 and a xi-fi titanium are the only things on the MB. It's perhaps on the lower side of what I see people using but it should do the job considering there is no clocking involved. I think? |

It is on the low side in numbers terms, but not in output terms. The Corsair units are generally very reliable and solid. I would discount that as a problem for the moment. It's also 52A @ 12v single rail, so it's not like swapping which plug feeds what will sort the problem. The overheating issue is possible. There are (IIRC) 9 voltage regs on the card, 3 in the middle and 6 at the back, it's possible they are very warm, apparently the cooling for the 3 in the middle is shit... Do any other games cause the same thing to happen? And what drivers are you running? What CPU and what motherboard? EDIT: Just to make sure, there is 1x 8 pin PCI-e plug connected and 1x 6 pin PCI-e plug for power connected? |
