Hi there

Currently I'm using a SoftTH-Setup with Ultramon for desktop-activities on WinXP but maybe I'll change to Eyefinity (and for sure to Win7). But most Eyefinity discussions are about Gaming (of course), not usability when working. Afaik Eyefinity just simulates one big screen. So your taskbar will be on the outer left corner of the setup. So here are my questions:

Is it possible to get the taskbar to the middle screen with Windows7 and an Eyefinity-Setup?
Is it possible to have three seperate taskbars like with ultramon?
Will Ultramon work with Win7 and an EF-Setup?
Will new windows (i.e. open folders or inet explorer) behave like on one big screen or can I use an EF-Setup in deskop-mode just like my current solution (maximizing windows will max them on only one monitor)?
Is it neccessary to cancel the EF-setup in the ATI-driver everytime I want to use the monitors for work?
Are there any other disadvantages of Eyefinity vs. SoftTH/Ultramon when not gaming?

Thanks in advance. :)

1. Yes, requires disabling eyefinity and having extended desktops.
2. Yes.
3. Yes, with Eyefinity Disabled.
4. You may have to use the Hydragrid (i think it's called) to seperate your desktop if you are in eyefinity mode.
5. I'm not sure, but if it acts like it does on my setup (ATM, I don't use eyefinity), it will rearrange your monitors automatically, when you unplug.
6. Personally, I like the one huge desktop. But most people like it sectioned off. It allows for playing movies on one, and working in the other. But having the large desktop allows you to view large amounts of data without worrying about "boundaries." This also helps if you have a move in Cinema aspect ratio. It'll have the picture go through under the bezels (or jump across) and have a bigger picture, instead of black bars on the top and bottom of your screen.

Why don't you just disable eyefinity and switch to normal triple monitor mode when you need to do some work?

I'm the lazy one. Now I just have tpo do nothing to run games and then work. I switch regulary from a running game to desktop use and then it will be very annoing not to have the three screens seperated.

@suiken
Thanks for the answers. Yes I like the screens seperated - its much more effective for work - and I don't use my computer for movies.
