Post subject:  Eyefinity with different size monitors at different distance

I have a 32" LCD TV (1360x768) acting as my main monitor, and I sit about 5 feet away from it. I have a chance to pick up a pair of 19" 4:3 LCDs for cheap, I was wondering if eyefinity would be feasible if I put the 19" closer to me than the 32" so the size mismatch won't be that noticable. Provided I can run them all at the same resolution of course.

I'm sure it's possible, but I don't think it would be worth it. It would seem that you would be better off getting 3 of the 19" monitors, considering that they quite possibly have a higher resolution than your TV. Also, I don't think the perspective would be immersive, and your brain would not fill in the gaps, unlike bezels. In other words, it wouldn't look like one big monitor, it would look like 3 at 3 different places.

Just wondering, why would it look horrible? if I have the 19"s closer to me but at an angle and distance where the picture matches up with the sides of hte 32" in the back, why horrible?

Because they will be at a different focal point than the one in the middle.

Watch something on the TV now and hold a magazine up at arms length so that it matches the size of the TV. That's what your 19" screens will look like out of your peripheral vision. You'll have to change focus between them and the main TV.

Also, you'll only have to shift your view slightly left or right to result in things overlapping in your vision.

Beside general focal point issues (You monitors on the left and right defocusing) the resolution on every monitor must be the same and it'll be stretched.

This. If you're older or wear glasses, frequent focal accommodation this is especially difficult. Binocular vision further complicates things, and the combination will likely make it impossible for your brain to 'merge' the images. Simply maintaining your head in the same position is intolerably uncomfortable if you plan to spend significant time at your PC.

Aside from all this, Eyefinity will not work in this situation. 19" 4:3 LCDs, likely 1600x1200, cannot be mixed/matched with 32" 1360x768 sets.
