Sorry if this has been asked already.

Can you use the ports on the second card if its in CF? I would like to setup a 3+1 setup with my 4th monitor over top of the 3 for other apps. I had planned on getting the 5870 Eyefinity edition but if i can do this and do CF i might go this way instead.

I did some poking around and it looks like this wont work? Can anyone confirm this?(2 5800 cards in cross fire with 3 monitors in a group and the 4th on the second card in as a side monitor)

Has anyone added another card to the mix on the system for the extra monitor? Any complications from this?

Sadly it won't work.

The original idea with the CF cards wont work? or the idea of adding a low end card to the system just to run b/s apps in the background?

If you have crossfire enabled you can only use outputs on one card (3 outputs). If you want a 4th monitor while running crossfire you have to add a 3rd card. If you can sacrifice the 4th monitor while gaming you can always run 2 cards, setup a profile with them not crossfired and run up to 6 monitors then have a profile setup with crossfire activated, when you switch to that profile any monitors not on the primary card will automatically be disabled unless they're on a seperate (3rd) card.
