Post subject: | Problem adding a 4th screen to my 5970 Eyefinity setup |
Hey guys, I just added a 4th monitor to my Eyefinity setup and the issue that I am running into is that my system becomes very unstable after I configure the 4th screen. Everything is fine on the desktop with it extended to the 4th screen and I can enable and calibrate the ACER T230h touch screen. When I try to run iracing, my system will freeze about 90% of the time when trying to load the sim, and when it does load, I can play the sim but then the system freezes or blue screens when I exit iracing. This issue is not isolated to iracing though because it also happens when I try and play DIRT2. RFactor does not seem to be affected by this and I am able to play it and exit without any issues at all. My current configuration is: Intel i7 950 3.0ghz 6gb DDR3 ram 60gb SSD system drive 1TB WD Hard drive for programs ATI 5970 w/2gb memory video card in Eyefinity connected to 3, 47" Vizio LCD screens ATI 4350 w/ 512k memory connected to the ACER T230 23" touch screen monitor Corsair 1200 watt power supply (Planning to tri-fire with a 5870) Windows 7, 64 bit I'm currently running the latest ATI driver version 10.9 but also tried 10.6. I have tried a couple different video cards as my second card connected to the 4th monitor including a 5870 and the result is the same. I initially attempted to do this on an i5 system board with dual video card slots and running under Windows 7 32 bit but ran into the exact same issues so I thought it may have been motherboard related. This configuration works if I'm using the 5870 in Eyfinity and the 4350 connected to the 4th monitor. In this configuration, I can run all apps and games without any issues but I cannot seem to get this to work properly with the 5970. I am suspecting some sort of driver issue and will contact ATI to find out if there is a solution to this problem. I know there are some of you running a 4th screen along with your Eyefinity setups but I believe that most are probably running either a USB to VGA adapter or using a monitor that has a built in USB adapter. I if you are using a USB to VGA adapter successfully with a 4th monitor and a 5970, please let me know what adapter you're using. I also tried an IOGear USB to VGA adapter and their drivers had compatibility issues with the Catalyst Control Center. Sorry for the long winded post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ...Mike |

I also just tried disabling Catalyst AI to disable Crossfire on the 5970 and it still did not make a difference. ....Mike |

I got this configuration working by removing the 4850 and adding an Nvidia 8800 GS to run the touch screen. It looks like the ATI cards did not play well together for some strange reason. ....Mike |

I have a 5970 this is what I use for a 4th monitor! Been using it for 10 months! Works great but get newest drivers before plugging it in> Only issue is it will not let you use aero for win 7. Not a big deal for me. Also max of 1680x1050 res. Not great for video or fast moving stuff. I use 16 bit for speed. Cant see a diff from 32 bit. I use it for teamspeak and monitoring stuff. They have one for 1920x1200 also. Also it doen't mess with eyefinity as it has nothing to do with the windows display stuff! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Tritton+Technologies+-+SEE2+External+VGA+Video+Adapter/9325241.p?id=1218084985994&skuId=9325241&st=TRITTON&contract_desc=null |
