Setup my new Eyefinity rig using 3 Optoma GT720 projectors. I'm unable to configure the Eyefinity group to use the the native resolution of 3840x800. The problem is that the projectors support 1080p input and so the AMD driver selects 5760x1080 as the default resolution. I tried using Phoenix and MonInfo to generate an override EDID to disable everything but 1280x800 but that didn't fix anything. I'd prefer to not flash new EDIDs into the projectors.

AMD's latest preview driver (12.2) supports a host of lower Eyefinity resolutions but my new 7970 isn't supported by that driver release. Someone over at guru3d hacked Catalyst 12.2 to add support for the 7970 so I'll try that out tonight. If that still doesn't work for me does anyone else have any suggestions?

Some relevant information:
Core i5 running Win7 64bit
XFX BEDD 7970 (currently running Catalyst 12.1)
Projectors are connected using the DL-DVI port and the 2 mini-DP ports (each mini-DP is using an XFX mini-DP --> DVI active adapter) The cables themselves are just DVI-->HDMI.

BHawthorne ... any advice on getting this running properly? Thanks.

M.

Let me dig up a copy of my GT720.inf. Update to that driver on all three projectors in the device manager. I have a copy of it on my NVIDIA rig. I'll post it sometime tomorrow for you.

Thanks man that would be awesome. I got it working at 3840x800@60Hz using a modded Catalyst 12.2 preview release from Guru3D. I'd still like to be able to use 3840x720@120Hz. Hopefully I can get that running using your .inf file. This thing looks pretty sweet now. Just need to "screen goo" the screen and paint the borders around the outside. I'm also going to lift the whole thing about 1.5 inches right now - it's sittin a bit low.

I found a version of the inf in one of my document directories. I've also got 12.2 preview installed, but the inf is not helping me for some reason to see 1280x720@120. The GT720 is also capable of 1280x800@120 but it's undocumented. I know it works because I've used it with my NVIDIA card.

Ok, I finally got it working with my 7970 using Catalyst 12.2 from Guru3d at 3840x800 @120Hz. Your .inf file alone didn't work though, I used it as a base in Moninfo to create a new override EDID. This one contains detailed timing information for 1280x800 at 120Hz from the VESA spec. I've attached my new .inf file to this post. I made 1280x800 @120Hz the native/preferred timing (the first detailed block in the .inf) ... works great :)

I think I've settled the 60Hz vs. 120Hz argument (for myself at least). I fired up Battlefield BC2 and things appeared so much smoother than at 60Hz. I've got nearly 700 hours in that game and so I may be just noticing something subtle but there's definitely a difference.

Pretty happy with my purchase right now. I was worried that the resolution drop coming from 5760x1200 would be really bad but now it's turned out pretty good.

Thanks for the help in getting this up and running. Just need to "screen goo" my screens and I'm all set
