The ZOTAC Dual HDMI adaptors transform native DisplayPort and mini-DisplayPort outputs from notebooks, desktops – graphics cards and integrated graphics – to dual HDMI outputs. This could be interesting, but then again, maybe not. Not sure what kind of limits passive puts on it's usefulness vs active.

Hmmm. A single eyefinity 6 card pushing 12 1920x1080 screens? Sign me up.

Well this is a good way to do 3 rows of 4 so a 4x3. My thing is that it's a combined resolution, so it's not individual monitors. It's like a TH2Go.

I think someone at Zotac totally misunderstands the definition of passive adapter. Active adapter does not mean external power requirement...

Does it have an active transcoding chip in the box for DP->2 HDMI? Is it DP 1.1 compatible or does it require DP 1.2? What version of HDMI? 1.3? 1.4a?

Anyone care to contact Zotac to clarify? It's at best very poorly worded, and at worst misleading for those that might want to use. Critical information is omitted.

I know for sure it's beyond the capabilities for the 5870 E6, no idea on the 6000-series cards though. I've asked numerous times around here for someone to run DXCaps.exe from the DirectX SDK to find the max theoretical capabilities for spanning on the 6000-series, but noone has done so yet. Maybe the 7000-series will let us do 16k or 16,384 pixel width? I can dream right? Considering I use 1280x800 projectors in my builds, I can do a 6x1L hybrid anyways and not worry about hitting 8000 pixel width (1280x6=7680). As is, I can confirm 5x1L works just fine with the 11.8 drivers and 5870 E6 and no special adapters other than the typical active ones. :)

On logical way - is DP1.1 can support 3D?
If not, this adapter support 1.3 hdmi max ;)

Also I am preety sure zotac or another manufacturer will do dp1.2 adapter with 3 or 4x hdmi 1.4a (which all we know dp1.2 can operate 3840x2400 max)

DP 1.1 on my 5870 E6s can lock 120hz just fine. Also my 120hz 3D ready projectors are HDMI 1.3. Not sure what you mean?

They probably meant passive as in doesn't need external power source (e.g. resistors/capacitors). Except that they must be using the 3.3V on a DP to get power for their adapters, since at the very least they have to convert it to a 5V on a HDMI. So not actually passive..

Totally lost as to what they are doing though. Is it cloning the same image? Splitting down the middle? What?

also from positive things, now will be cheaper and easeir to buy 3x zotac dual hdmi adapters for 6x 1920x1200 than 6x dual link dp @ dvi active adapters :O

Certainly makes a 6x1L plausible on a standard Eyefinity 3x1L setup now for 720p projection. Configure for 60 degrees per projector and account for edge blending overlap to have a full circular 360 degree MSFS FSX experience. Now if only MS Flight would hurry up and be released. FSX is showing age. It's a shame nothing else out there likes anything over 180 degrees. I suppose if you build it, they will accommodate it though. I'd be interested in seeing an MMO allow it. :bigsmile:
