Sorry for my first post being a long one, but despite my problem I hope the info I provide is valuable to others.
I have recently set-up 5 x 51inch Samsung plasma screens to make a video wall for a bar, using the Milkdrop application for Sound to Visualisation effect.
For this I used a high spec PC with a Asus HD7970 DC2 3 GB card.
For anybody interested in replicating the design a schematic is below..
I have some issues with the cable lengths being 20 Meters and despite trying line extenders to various degrees of success, I have come to the conclusion that I must live with each TV running at 1024 x 768, which successfully gives me an EYEFINITY screen size of 5120 x 768.
I am more than happy with this resolution and the Visualisation effect I get is more superb and runs lightning fast at 60 fps.
However my problems begin when I try and set-up Bezel compensation…
I click on “Adjust Bezel Compensation” and all the screens appear to flicker/reset, and one will switch to 1920 x 1080 resolution automatically as shown below with a working windows desktop extension.
On the small control monitor where I have Catalyst open (latest version) it tells me the following.. “Warning your display configuration has changed” and now I've lose my Eyefinity configuration altogether.
So I assume after playing for a few days and several windows re-installations ensuring the cleanest tweaking possible that this is simply not possible with the GUI and needs a more clever solution.
1) Can I manually force bezel compensation perhaps by tweaking with the registry values or playing with config files?
2) Can I perhaps forbid the 1920 x 1080 (and others) resolution altogether therefore avoiding this switch to Full HD each time?
3) Can a pin be removed or made high to disable the negotiation with the TV that decides to set screen to 1920 x 1080?
I’m a pretty good engineer and can work through most problems, so I probably don’t need a full set of instructions, but a point in the right direction would be most appreciated.
Also the purchasing of addition equipment may be very limited due to my location being in Thailand, where there is very little kit available, almost everything was shipped in from UK.
How comes you cant run in 1920*1080 ? Adapter/Extender Problem? I thought HDMI can either send the full signal or none ?
And why do you use 4 DP to DVI adapter ? Are there no DP to HDMI adapter? or none there? ^^
But i wonder why it didn't work. There are some special Cable out there who say the could do fullHD over 20m, even in 3D! tough kinda expensive.
so, bout 2) If you change the EDID of the monitor you should be able to block 1080p
3) Disable Pin's of HDMI ? No idea... but i dont think thats a good idea ^^
Number 1) Well, that might work. in your "C:UsersHaldiAppDataLocalATIACEProfiles" Folder you'll find Presets. you might somehow be able to eddit a non Bezel corrected file into a corrected. maybe.
Thanks for your suggestions but the solution was actually quite straight forward, I'll get to that later..
@Haldi,
Active DP to HDMI converters just don't seem to be available, the problems with the cable seem to be only when all 5 are connected (perhaps it's voltage drop) and thanks for the EDID suggestion, I havn't used it yet but it may cure another problem I have.
@Sean
I thought of that also, hence tried without the small monitor to no success.
The actual solution was to connect all the televisions up with short HDMI cables and then perform the bezel compensation at 9600 x 1080 , after successfully setting the bezel compensation I was then able to drop my resolution using the windows resolution tool to the bezel compensated value just above 6144 x 1024.
