I've got a really odd problem. I've been using my Eyefinity setup without problem for 18 months now. I usually run in an extended desktop mode for work, web browsing & single-monitor games, and have a separate Eyefinity group preset that I activate when I want to play widescreen games.
I've not run anything in Eyefinity mode for about 3 weeks, and when I activated my preset today, instead of a nice 5760x1080 res screen, I ended up with mirrored displays. I tried running through the steps in the Catalyst Control Centre to create an Eyefinity display group but it didn't behave as I expected, and once again I ended up with mirrored screens. I can't think of much I've done since the last time, other than install the AMD Hydravision module, so I tried System Restore to roll back to a previous restore point which, frustratingly, failed for some reason apparently unconnected to the AMD drivers.
My next step was to uninstall my existing drivers, and download and install the latest version. However I get the same weird results. This is what happens:
1) I start in an extended desktop mode, where Windows thinks I have 3 1920x1080 monitors. The Windows taskbar spans the middle desktop. This is my normal working environment.
2) I run CCC. It can see my 3 monitors fine:
3) I click on Create Eyefinity Display Group then on the middle display, get the message "The only displays that can be added to the display group belong to extended desktops. Click Continue to disable the extended desktops" and click [Continue]
4) . My left & right screens go black and I get prompted to select a layout. I choose 3 x 1 and hit [Continue]
5) My left & right screens now show a mirror of my main screen, and CCC just shows one large screen. This never happened before! CCC used to show one wide rectangle with dashed lines showing where the monitor breaks were, if I recall correctly.
6) If I go back to Desktop Management it now shows one screen.
One other thing I've just thought of that may be relevant; the other thing that I've done since it last worked correctly is disconnect all the cables at the back, pull out the base unit, and install 2 extra sticks of RAM in the motherboard. I made sure to reconnect the monitors to the same ports they were connected to before, though.
What on earth is going on, and how do I get back to a nice 5760x1080 resolution display for my gaming?
I'm stumped. Any help extremely appreciated!
