Post subject: | Looking to purchase eyefinity - will this work? |
Hi Guys, I am looking to upgrade to a eyefinity setup and im slightly confused if this will work successfully. Equipment: GPU: R9 290x & R9 295x2 (trifire) Monitor: QNIX QX2710 (1440p 120hz) - DVI only. I have not bought the other 2 monitors (I am probably going to buy 3 identical.) So the setup im thinking is using the 2 x DVI-DL ports in the 290x and 1x DVI-DL port in the 295x2. I have done a lot of reading and I have seen a lot of people having issues with the 290x and getting third monitor working. Can someone give me some advise on the setup above (will it work? if not - how to get a setup working?) |

All of your video outputs have got to come from a single card for Eyefinity to work and you must use at least one displayport connection for Eyefinity to work. If none of your monitors support displayport, you'll need at least one active displayport adapter. |

+1 what Birfurk8 said. Note, displayport adapters come in both passive and active, for a 3rd display you must use an active adapter. |

Great - Thanks for the replies. So one question, if I use an active displayport adapter - do I loose the 120hz on that monitor? Thanks in adavnce |

Sadly i have no Monitory (only have 5 laying around...) with HDMI input -.- i use a HDMI cable to the Denon AVR-x1000 and from the denen Out via HDMI->DVI adapter to my Monitor. There are Displayport to DualLink-DVI Adapters available which can do 120hz at 1920x1080 |

Hello Haldi, Thanks for the input - that is my concern. Im trying to run 1440p at 120hz , and im worried the adapters wont do that. hmmm is anyone here running 1440p 120hz eyefinity? |

Yeh this is tricky - and I cant get any clear picture if what I am trying to achieve will work. 120hz - 1440p - 3 monitor eyefinity. It seems like you can get 120hz on 1080p as you stated. But I dont think the active DP -> DVI adaptors can do both 1440p & 120hz.. hmmm more reading is needed |

1440p (2560x1440) @ 120hz requires 10.62Gbit/s of bandwidth (per monitor), which only Displport 1.2 cables and connectors can handle, DVI dual-link is limited to 7.92GBit/s and HDMI 1.4c is limited to 8.16GBit/s. If the monitors support this resolution and refresh rate then I suspect that they have a displayport input. Source / bandwidth calc So in order to achieve 3x 2560x1440@120hz, would require a GPU with 3x Displaport 1.2 outputs (all AMD cards from the Radeon 6xxx series up, support DP1.2) This thread may be of some use to you, to help find a GPU that has 3x DP1.2 outputs. - http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=24334 |

I think the normal R9-295X2 does have 4x miniDP and a DVI |
