To show the importance of Sol7 in the whole setup, here is a picture example of uncorrected projection (and what your 2D desktop will always look like) vs. Sol7 pre-warped projection. Without pre-warp capability circular projection is ugly.
I was wondering why you needed sol7. Thanks for the clarification.

Here is my first try at a YouTube video ever. It's just some random IMAX video footage using the record mode on my digital camera. The camera isn't that great for video capture but it works I guess.

Since Windows 7 and Vista both use DirectX to render the desktop when Areo is enabled shouldn't it work on the Desktop as well? Or is that too integrated in the OS?

I wish it was that simple of an answer, but no. The desktop even if it does use hardware acceleration of sorts doesn't behave the same as full screen mode. If the desktop behaved like full screen mode (or vice versa) we'd never need TH2G and EyeFinity work arounds.

Hi BHawthorne,

I've been following this thread, and I have been in just total awe....can't wait to see when the simpit is done.

Great job on all the detail, IMO this is one the neatest gaming rooms I've seen to date.

Most of all, thanks for sharing with eveyone here. :)

Not much forward progress going on today as I reached a new level of hell called "ceiling mounted projector alignment".

Man, I wouldn't wish this torture on my worst enemy. Balancing on a crappy ladder with the projector with the mount attached to it in one hand while I have a black magic marker in the other marking the mounting location on the ceiling. You wouldn't think the projectors weight much but after shifting them over your head for a good 2 hours my arms are about to fall off. The first one went real slow, but not I've got a method to it now, so the other 2 shouldn't be quite as bad (I hope). :x

Great progress BHawthorne! What screen material are you going to get from ebay? As far as gain goes, I wonder if you'll need less than you think because of reflections from opposite sides? Since the sides are traditionally dark in HT setups I wonder if the 2k lumens on the L/R might necessitate gain more as if you had lots of ambient light.

Question for you. Do you think the Sol7 blending would be too distracting in the middle of the screen?

I was thinking about starting out with only 2 of these since they are displayport http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&redirect=1&s=bsd&sku=224-5768 @2560x800

I'm getting my screen material from http://stores.shop.ebay.com/protheater__W0QQ_armrsZ1

Interesting projector. It's the first DP projector I've ever ran across. Be sure to check out the lens throw in comparision to the sizescreen you eant to run. Make sure you have enought distance in the room to properly project the screen size. I use the Projector Central calculator.

As far as my setup, no real progress at the moment. It's up and running and I've thrown an area rug into the room and a couch in the back for tv and movie watching.
