As I understand it cards have a limit of max 4096x4096 ...

Hello guys ! I just registered when I saw this post.

I've got some 'news' from the Live For Speed forums (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=334212#post334212).

Some guy has discovered that a Nvidia 8800 isn't limited at 4096x4096 but at 8192x8192 texture res. This means that you can use 3 monitors @ 1920x1200 = 5760x1200...

The maximum bandwidth of a Dual-link DVI cable is 7.92 Gbit/s

With 48 bits/pixel:

7.92 Gbit / 60 Hz / 48 = 2.75 megapixels.

With 24 bits/pixel:

7.92 Gbit / 60 Hz / 24 = 5.5 megapixels.


This gives us a maximum resolution of 5.5 megapixels to play with when using 24bits/px.

Seeing as:

5040 x 1050 = 5.292 megapixels,

It fits within (although barely) the 5.5 megapixel limit.

Hopefully this helps clarify it for some people! And if any of it's wrong, I take no responsibility because it's just what I've tried to make sense of from the wikipedia page :)

How is this exactly possible? The max pixels of current GPUs is only 2560 x 1600 = 4096000 but 3 x 1680 x 1050 = 5292000. This exceeds the limit.

I think the screen resolution is limited by the GPU and not the Triplehead2go.


Check out this thread, especially the conversation I had with JKeefe. I tested my rig and easily ran 5,400,000 pixels on an 8800GTS and DX9.0c. The claim that 9.0c is limited to 4096 horizontal pixels is bogus. The bottleneck is in fact the DVI connection.

Perhaps this data should added to the wiki, since the misinformation seems rampant.

Shocking news. It won't be so easy for me to upgrade my three 5:4 panels to widescreen ones, but hey, hurray all the same ! :D

good news finally. however there is not enough games supporting that res yet, so ill stick to good old 3840x1024. (which is natively support in good games).

next update will be 3 WS projectors :)

just googled around some, and couldnt find any projector in neither 5:4 nor 16:10. halpz plz. :roll:

Every 20th frame will will actually be the previous frame (example is a 15z display with an input of 12Hz)
123441234412344 is what a second will look like, you wont notice, the people best able to detect refresh rates will not be able to visually detect any change over 40Hz/FPS.


True on an LCD, on a CRT I can still tell when it's 60Hz or lower.

Some times I've been able to tell if it's at 75 or 85hz too, but that's when 2 monitors side by side had one at 75 and the other ar 85hz.

On either though, I don't think anyone could see a difference between 57, 58, 59 or 60hz.

I do know my 23" benq had a 'fix' implemented in it's firmware to drop 1920x1200@60Hz to 58Hz since 60Hz was borderline and causing problems with no images on DVI.

Many brands have native 16:10 projectors, eg Epson EMP-400W, Toshiba TLP-WX2200U, Panasonic PT-LW80NTU, Hitachi CP-WX625.

i don't know a lot about projectors :?. Mostly I'm looking for the right ratio and resolution;

native resolution should be at least 1280x1024 or 1680x1050, which seems to bee the main problem.


image quality should be decent, and price shouldn't be higher than 1000$. If they were low-noise that would be appreciated too, however I'm willing to build my own cooling system :)

Don't confuse limitations of monitors with limitations of GPUs. The highest-resolution computer monitor that is available is 2560x1600 (this is a 30" widescreen). But GPUs can do vastly higher resolutions than this (4096x4096 for 7x00s and below and 8192x8192 for 8x00s and above, to use the nVidia side as an example).
