So I have a new PC coming in later this week and so far, the toughest decision I've had to make is what monitor(s) to buy for it. Here's my situation and what I plan to do: Vertical Heat Dissipation 1KW Silverstone Olympia Evolution 2x ATI Radeon HD 5870 2GB Total GDDR5 in CrossFire DX11 Asus P6X58D Premium Intel Core i7-960 3.2GHz Quad-core with Hyperthreading 6GB Kingston HyperX Triple-Channel DDR3-1600MHz Low Latency Drive 1: 128GB Crucial RealSSD C300 SATA 6Gb/s (<---sick, i know) Drive 2: 750GB Western Digital Caviar Black SATA 7200rpm 32MB Cache 22X Dual Layer DVD RW Drive Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I want to take advantage of eyefinity, but from what I've read, eyefinity and crossfire hate each other at the moment. Also, you can probably tell that I spent a decent amount of cash customizing this machine. So I'm taking a more progressive (and slightly more responsible) approach to buying my monitors. I will buy one now, and over time (ideally once a crossfire/eyefinity fix has been released and accepted) I will buy two complimentary identical monitors to complete the setup. So, here are my constraints. 23inches+, good warranty, respectable brand name (leaning towards dell and samsung). Suitable connectivity for eyefinity. Ridiculously low (but not CRT low) response and lag. I am one of those freakish individuals that every reviewer seems to include in their articles who notices the slightest amount of lag, and I have nightmares about buying a shit gaming monitor as my window to such a sweet system. This system will be used almost exclusively for new and future games, and to feed my unhealthy addiction for WoW arena pvp. Therefore, the gorgeous u2410 and u2711 panels are almost out of the picture because of their response times and input lag (from what Ive read), despite being such incredible all-around displays. Ive also read about the samsung 2233rz and the alienware 2310. Both look very nice, but I currently use a 2407WFPb, bought new in June 07, and downgrading to a 22inch samsung seems crazy, and 5 weeks for shipping is a little psycho for the alienware. I don't necessarily need the 3D support, but these panels are just innately fast. I understand I will most likely be looking at TN panels because retarded speed and image clarity is a necessity for me, whereas color truth and quality are less important. Another problem I have is that I cannot go in person to look at these, because the Air Force decided that central Montana is a good place for a technophile (cry...), and we simply don't have many retailers around here who supply quality displays. You can see me dilemma! Thank you all in advance for reading my wall of text and additional thanks to anyone who can provide an opinion or some guidance for me. :D |

This orange monster maybe? Acer GD235HZbid Black/orange 23.6" 2ms Widescreen 1080p 120Hz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009222 Though portrait and no DisplayPort would be huge issues.. wish there was a better 120Hz selection. |
