Post subject:  Skyrim fine outdoors, super slow indoors...

Like most people I run into the occasional spikes of slowness in skyrim, but recently (may be patch related) when I go indoors (cave, buildings, etc) The game chugs so slowly for all intents and purposes, it freezes. Outside, NO problem and smooth as ice. I wouldn't say these indoor facades are graphic intensive either. And when I say slow I mean maybe 1 FPS, if that. I've tried multiple times on different days, different locales on the map etc...no luck. I am using the Flawless Widescreen Fix. It's so bad I've had to stop playing...this is serious!

Anyone else with the problem or have a solution?? Please help!

Hi tomfoolery_79,

I don't know what card your using but try to be sure that you have the newest driver and try to check if the problem still exists when your don't use the widescreen fixer.

Drivers are up to date. If I don't use the widescreen fix then the game's menus and map are really screwed up.

I know that you get screwed up menus and maps but are you getting better fps indoors without the widescreen fixer??

Post subject:  You'll have to troubleshoot

You'll have to troubleshoot the problem step by step. As Sh4dowking says, try it without Flawless Widescreen just to see if that's causing the problem.
If it still runs badly, then you'll have to change each graphical setting down one by one until it clears up. I'd start with anything to do with Lighting/Shadows, AA, and Texture Quality. Sounds like you might be running out of VRAM in fact.

Post subject:  Turning off Flawless

Turning off Flawless Widescreen did not fix it. AA was already turned off. I'll test the lighting as I suspect that is the culprit. Will report back.

Post subject:  Actually, I turned Shadows

Actually, I turned Shadows Quality from the "in-game" menu to lowest setting and that seemed to do the trick. I will say it's odd because I've always played it on Ultra with no problems...this developed "spontaneously"...thx for all the help.

Post subject:  What fps are you actully

What fps are you actully getting? Because I had around 60-70fps indoors but controls were super duper sluggish. Funny thing was that outdoors I had around 30-45 fps and game was smooth as butter.

I fixed this by capping my fps 45 and tweaked iPresentinterval (in skyrimprefs.ini) to 2 instead of 0 (test what suits you, 0-3).

Well, it's smooth as ice now, so I don't want to mess with more settings...but I'm getting 40-50 FPS throughout the game.
