Post subject:  Probably a dumb question, new to multi-monitor gaming
Hey all

Just a quick question, I'm struggling to find comparable examples online.

I own a 24" http://www.amazon.de/LG-W2443T-Widescre ... s=LG+24%22

and x2 17" DELL UltraSharp 1707FPVt

My question is this: Given that my 24" monitor is in the middle and I have two identical 17" monitors either side, is there any possibility of 'surround' gaming at all? Or is this setup only useful for gaming on the centre monitor while I have my browsers/films/music/whatever on the other screens?

I didn't buy the 2 extra 17" monitors SPECIFICALLY for surround gaming, i love the extra real estate, but is it possible?

It is possible to game using your 3 screens, I would suggest looking into SoftTH, it is a Directx 9.0 wrapper that allows you to span your gave over multiple graphics cards and monitors, each monitor can be different resolutions, orientation, refresh rate and different bezel sizes, it is not the most simple of solutions but it works well for DX9 titles, sadly DX10/11 is not yet currently supported, although the source code for SoftTH has recently been made public earlier this year with members around the world trying to get DX10/11 functionality implemented into it.

AMD and nVidia also have their specific solutions. Some are easier to configure than other but is depends on what GPU you have/plan to use:)
But I remember using SoftTH 2-3 years ago when I was only having 2 monitors..it works very well once it is configured properly

Yeah i actually tried out Nvidia surround and the results are not pretty, a 24" screen running at 1280x1024.

'Ugly' does not do it justice. What a shame.

You using different monitors I take it ? Do all the monitors share the same refresh rate and resolution?

I'm using x2 Dell 17" 1707FPV and x1 24" LG monitor, the 24" has a max res. of 1920x1080, the 17" models have a max res of 1280x720

Hey,

The 17"ers are 1280x1024 and the 24"er is 1920x1080, when I try to switch on nvidia surround it just locks the 24" to 1280x1024 - which sucks for obvious reasons.

Yeah:( You need same Resolution for Surround. I remember trying with SoftTH with different resolutions and failing but some people report to have been successful...so dont know what to say...
