I want to eventually get 3 widescreen monitors or 1 middle widescreen with a regular monitor on both sides of the widescreen (either 1080P or 1440P for all monitors).
I want to run games at 1080P (mainly open world, RPG, Racing and Strategy games), either High or Ultra settings

What i'm wondering is with an FX 8350 (not overclocked) and a single GTX 770 4GB, would i be able to run that or would i need either another GTX 770 4GB, 2 other/better cards or also a new cpu?

Hi.

first off, if you intend to run a setup with different resolution Monitors you need an AMD GPU, nvidia only supports same resolution.

If you intend to run a Widescreen Monitor in center and side monitros in Portrait mode, called PLP mode, then don't bother... that doesn't work for 75% of the games! You can get it running in Direct X9 with SoftTH or in windowed mode, but it's a hassle.
Multimonitor support as it is is already bad on most games.

For 5760x1080 resolution with a GTX770 that should be enough for Medium to High settings with a little AA.

So in other words, having the triple monitor is only worth it if i don't plan to game on all three monitors?
If that's the case, then it's not a big loss. What you mentioned about different resolutions not being capable with Nvidia, is that for gaming or anything?
If it's just for gaming, then i don't mind, cause one screen is still good enough for me.

No. Gaming over 3 screens is worth it! If you use 3x the same Monitor!
On AMD even 1920x1080|2560x1080|1920x1080 and other crazy stuff works.
Roughly 75% Games work in this Setup, some with extra tools like "Flawless Widescreen" you can check the Detailed Report Database on WSGF to see which Games work and which don't.

And yes,
SLS, single Large Surface aka nVidia Surround aka AMD Eyefinity
The Ability to Maximise Games and Apps over several Monitors.

If you intend to use Extended mode, I.e Excel maximised on left screen. Browser in middle screen and chat messenger or video chat on right monitor, that works fine with 3 different Monitors on AMD and nVidia.
