Hello, Im new to the forums as you can already gather :D I hope to have a good time here!

Erm, well the thing is, I have a budget of £175 and i'd like a 19" Widescreen, and these are the two in my budget, what should I go for?

The Viewsonic VA1912W or the Acer AL1916WS

Both 19" and widescreen. - What is the better monitor? Thanks

Please help, ordering maybe tomorrow

From what I see the Acer only has analog input, while the ViewSonic(which I own) has analog and DVI. That said, go with the ViewSonic.

Much of a difference with DVI and VGA?

Also, you dont have to have speakers on do you?
Is it a sturdy monitor pretty high up from the desk etc..?

The AL1916W/S only have analog. If you can get the AL1916W/SD it will have analog and digital.

I don't know the complete tech aspects of DVI vs analog, but dual input would be more flexible down the road.

The VA1912wb does have speakers, located at the bottom of the screen. The sound from them is pretty thin, so I don't use them. I much prefer my 5.1 speakers or headset.

Here's a look at my desk setup.

The base puts the bottom of the screen about 3.5" above the shelf, which happily sets it right at eye level for me. Adjusting the tilt of the screen feels stable, and it only wobbles when my whole desk does.
