Looks to be a fun project. But if you're lazy. I would just wait for this to show up on market and add an external DVD drive:

http://gizmodo.com/5204432/acer-revo-and-nvidia-ion-hands-on-flawless-blu+ray-playback-changes-cheap-computers-forever

I'm playing with an engineering sample now and it runs pretty good. 1.2GB 720p MKv files form TV shows (~43 mins) runs perfectly. Can even run Call of duty 4 and eve at lower res. Very quiet. I have no idea when it'll ship or how much it'll be but if it's around $300, I'll definitely get one and put it next to my HDTV.

That Acer thing looks cool my complaint would probably be lack of a esata port for faster connection.

Can Bluray actually play over usb?

It does have an ESATA port and HDMI out. I don't have a Blu-ray drive in an external case so you'll have to trust in Gizmodo's review. The only thing I want is a spdif output. but that should not be a problem when I upgrade my AV receiver to HDMI.

Ahh now I think I see it on the front.

I pray you already table tested this machine, I'd hate to see you put it together and smack your head.

It looks sweet though...

You jinxed it!

I hate you...

Not all of the kit is knackered, at any rate.

I have a tendency, a result of many years ago putting three new things in a system all at the same time and then spending hours figuring out WTF was wrong when it wouldn't work, of testing new things individually.

So...

Dig out old 3.5" SATA HDD and a full-sized SATA optical... motherboard works fine. It'll even boot the Windows XP install I forgot about on the HDD without complaint.

Put 2.5" SATA HDD in SATA caddy and plug into computer. Computer finds it and is happy.

Plug in SATA slimline optical drive into a working desktop using the adaptor that came with it... NOTHING. BIOS doesn't detect it - in fact, it hangs the BIOS so only the switch on the back of the PSU will turn the computer off. Optical drive DOA! Have just phoned Scan.

It's gonna be at least two weeks...

Tough luck, hope next works for you.

Personnaly I'm waiting for the next popcorn hour media tank, the new revision includes a spot to put a full-sized optical drive, such as a blu-ray one.

Why is the Mobo getting stuck to a bit of wood?

Just a thought about that optical drive, perhaps the sata 1.5/3.0 settings might be affecting it? or maybe something else in the bios it doesn't like?

Were it PATA I'd suggest checking the cable/item order but not sure what could happen on a sata one.
