Hi all

I want a hard drive/storage space to exist that I can access locally and also when I am out and about on the road over the net. So I guess LAN & WAN. I don't want it to be a "Server" as such with a CPU, RAM, OS etc, it purely needs to be a "dumb" hard drive.

I will have a basic home/office wireless setup at the office, wireless router, wireless terminals, wireless network printer etc.

Anyone know of a simple solution to this?

P.S. I am not network savvy, so keep the jargon minimal for me would be appreciated.

easiest way is a NAS box. Its a simple box that hooks up to your network. Very easy to setup.

You want something like this... you can put your own drives in it, which is nice. Or just a boring one with one drive already in it... linkage...

Only thing I'd say is avoid the Western Digital ones. I bought one, and it will not transfer data at a reasonable speed. It's ridiculous. 1TB HDD, and it won't read or write data faster than 1.6MB/s... :x with gigabit ethernet, it should be doing 17MB/s+ without breaking a sweat.

That is precisly what I need. The NAS looks like the bomb, with 2 drives just in case one fails.

Priceless for a small business. It's own back up, just need to do a once a month back of the whole thing OFFSITE and all is sweet as.

GARY SWEET!

Thanks for the input. That seems a bit to...technical for someone as simple as myself.
