Why is the Mobo getting stuck to a bit of wood?

Because the whole case is gonna be made of wood. ;)

Just a thought about that optical drive, perhaps the sata 1.5/3.0 settings might be affecting it? or maybe something else in the bios it doesn't like?

Were it PATA I'd suggest checking the cable/item order but not sure what could happen on a sata one.

Yeah, I made sure there weren't any stupid settings in the BIOS that was causing it. Tried it on an old system (A7N8X Deluxe) which wouldn't find it but at least wouldn't lock up... and the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 which I know supports SATA optical drives as I've got two in there right now... which locked solid. Windows wouldn't load, BIOS wouldn't respond, even reset button didn't do anything. I got quite worried that it was gonna crap the system. But when I pulled the drive, system worked flawlessly again.

Yeah. I know. Shut up. :P

That being said, the i7 build went fairly painlessly. :)

...

Have done some more today. No pics as it was mostly sanding, which is hardly interesting. That and the fact that I was a walking monument to wood dust when I finished, and didn't fancy giving my camera a dustbath. ;)

I don't want the added cost, for the most part. Finding a slot loading slimline Blu-ray drive in the UK isn't easy, and they're very expensive. :( I didn't want this system to be too pricy.

...

No progress on this recently. Been too busy with real life.

Ah, UK prices does seems a bit crazy. I got a BD slim Panasonic UJ-120 for $55 and an slim external case for $16 last week to try with the Acer. Was just a bit surprise that you didn't go the BD route with a brand new HTPC.

I've got a PS3 to play Blu-ray discs... this is partly a low-power HTPC, partly a low-power general use rig and partly a gift for someone else. ;)

Well, if you ever need to access some of the low cost stuff in the US and have ways to avoid import duties. I'm sure one of us can send a care package your way ;-)

just a quick question regarding that. if you hypothetically sent him a blu ray drive, wouldnt that be american regionalised? we need region B and you are region A.

Or? am i on the wrong end of the stick and it will now work fine, as you can change it with software?

ty!

Probably but nothing AnyDVD HD will not take care off although it does add to the cost but it also allow for getting BD disc from anywhere in the world. it may also be that the BD drive will allow a certain number of region changes just like DVD drives (this needs to be researched).

My LG BD drive has user-controllable region changes (limit 5) just like all my DVD drives.

I can testify that AnyDVD HD is a fantastic piece of software. My system isn't close to being HDCP compliant, but with this app it doesn't matter. :) It also provides support for DVDs, an integrated ripper, automatic bypass for annoying trailers/FBI warnings, and more. Well worth the money, IMO, especially when it's discounted.
