Wow, that sucks man. I had to initially go through their India call centre (which I assume all initial calls go through), but was quickly transferred to a woman in Dell PC Tech Support. I explained my problem and her reply was simply "I've issued an exchange, it should be on its way soon. Just send us the old one once you get it, we'll send a return label for Purolator".

That was it. 5 minutes tops. No arguing or bartering at all. I was ready for a long-winded discussion, but I just told her the issue and she sent the replacement, no questions asked.

I opened a Small Business account with them and have a rep who handled my order. He's been very good as well, so maybe that helped.

 :?:

Well I found a little secret today that was able to fix up my replacment monitor preetty good.

remember of the 3 first ones, one of them had a panel issue, the pink tinted gradient.

and it seems out of any of the three the one using the display port connection seemed off color (5870/ati issue)

I fixed the display port color by raising the color tempature slightly in the ATI control panel. Its a near perfect match. Infact it may look "better" to me than the DVI connection after I did that.

So that left me with 2 monitors that matched and the 3rd one with the strong pink gradient.

I got the replacment and was upset to find it also had a strong red/pink tint to the entire panel. However since it was the entire panel it just seemed like a color issue and not a defect. However this time raising the color temp on the ati control panel did not have the desired effect, it could not match the color at all.

Dell u2410 does not let you tweak color settings except in custom color setting mode and that mode wont do the sRGB processing and thus still will not match the other 2 monitors I was running in sRGB mode.

But today I found out how to boot the monitor into the factory settings menu where there is a menu to tweak individual rgb values for the presets, I backed out red by about 45 and added a smidge of blue and it looks like a near perfect match now.

I think the blue is a bit off, I can tell on this forum due to its blue background but the white/grey now match and that was a lot more noticeable.

So with that my set of 3 are a really good match now and I will keep them. I think this is a lesson learned, wait for atleast one or two revisions before buying a Dell monitor :D

Also for my return, I sent a private message to a Dell rep on there forum and he is going to handle my return now himself I think. So I have to get some info for him off the old monitor and send it back to him and that should be taken care of.

I may still return the replacement monitor, while I am decently happy with the fix via the factory menu, it apparently voids your warranty if you use it and you break your monitor with it, so its not the proper way to fix the problem, and the monitor lottery is the only correct way for right now.

My replacement arrived and it also has a bright/defective pixel on the same right side of the panel.

It's going back.

Not sure if I will simply return both and get a refund, or try for another panel.

I'm very quickly losing faith in Dell though... :x

Im still having Dell issues too.

I had to Pm a senior Dell guy on the Dell forums to get my return setup, and what they must have done was schedule a pickup of the bad monitor at my house without telling me. UPS guy came knocking on the door today for a pickup and I was like O.o I didnt schedule any pickup....

I just wanted a return label sent to me so I can go drop it off at the UPS store, I always do it in person so I can have the store tape it up and stuff.

I was not ready so the UPS guy left, not sure if they will come again today or not.

Also Now that I know how to tweak the monitor color I can tell my right monitor has a pink gradient too it also, but you can only see it on a certian shade of grey and slightly with white, I can see the middle monitor has it too but very minor in the center monitor I can only see it when I really look for it.

So I have center monitor as my base, the replacement left monitor is a perfect match after color tweaking in the factory menu, and now the right monitor is my challenge. I had boosted the color temp in the ATI panel to make it match before but now I want to do it at the monitor level.

I find looking at white its more blue than the center, but looking at grey its pink tinted. So backing out red to fix the grey makes the white worse, and vice versa. So I am not able to color match it....

Im going to try again more today and turn off the color temp change on the ATI panel, that may pull the blue tone out of the white and then can fix tthe pink with the monitor. As long as I get the side of the monitor to match the center monitor so that I do not see the sharp change in tone the slight gradient across the screen should not bother me too much.

I just want 3 identical monitors but Dell returns are so much a pain that its making me find ways to deal with it.

sorry state of affairs tbh, if people wont return dodgy stuff because its too hard.

if you buy 3 monitors, 0 should be faulty, baring damage in transit IMO, if they QC each screen (that must be expensive, they could even charge more and say we guarantee 0 dead pixels for x time, perfect even backlight and provide a test certificate, market it as a higher spec screen that comes with 0 issues).

and on top of that, 3 monitors of the same range should be caliberateable so that they look the same, i can apreciate setting R to 46 might not be the same on 2 different screens due to slight manufacturing problems/ backlight uneven-ness etc, but they should all work togeather properly.

i would be pissed with 2 amazing screens and 3rd pink one.

Just to close this thread on my end -

I received my second replacement 2410 from Dell and it's perfect, I am very pleased with it. Dell's customer service has been impeccable throughout - they followed through on each return and they did not give me any hassles.
