I wonder if it will also be outrageously expensive?

Well they look identical except for slight cosmetic differences in color. Like the article says both are probably made by Ostendo. This tech isn't really a true "curved" display though, and I'm guessing it will be short lived if wrap around sceeens catch on big.

Reason being OLED and PLED tech is on the horizon, low in production cost, and can be made with super thin screens that are bendable, making a true curved screen possible vs these having 4 flat panels. OLED/PLED requires no backlighting either, so overall it would be way less space consuming and lighter in weight.

Now, I know this will sound strange, but I rather have 3 seperate monitors than one curved one. I HATE the idea of a curved monitor. It took years till the first good flat or "flat" crt monitors to arrive, I am not going back to a curved monitor no matter what.

Curved monitors of past were bidirectionally convex rather than horizontally concave though, except for Trinitrons. The fact is flatscreens were born of the original Sony Trinitron, which was flat vertically only.

As well the curved monitors you speak of were CRT vs the tech I'm talking about, which can literally be inkjetted right onto the substrate. Thus there would be no distortion due to uneven imaging like the CRTs you refer to. Commercial movie theaters have been using curved screens for years.

Personally I don't like the idea of wrap around screens whether a true curve or a series of flat panels. They have radical resolutions and aren't as versatile requiring closer sitting distances so they don't adapt to as many uses well.

That being said, I can see using curved screens for VR glasses, which may be something we'll see in future home gaming along with VR gloves.

If it uses anything like DLP, that's not going to be the case, unless a mirror dies (unlikely).

Oh no, even at the pre trinitron days, it was never the image that annoyed me with curved monitors. It was the idea I was looking at a 1950's TV set that annoyed me. It was all in my mind and still is. Stay away from me evil curved monitors!!!
