hi all, i want to ask this to everyone who owns one of them or both , i want to watch blu ray movies and keep playing games on my pc and right now i have a dell 2408 monitor(24").
My upgrade options due to resolution (only single 8800gtx) is a 27" dell monitor 2709 or a hdtv 1080p Samsung 32" ln32a550 , i need to make a decission as of wich of them would actually behave better for gaming and if the hdtv will i be able to scale down to a similar resolution as 1680x1050 or will i always have to play at 1920x1080, whats your experience with hdtv for pc use ? should i stick to a monitor or go with a larger but less pc like hdtv? thanks in advance. and happy new year.

I'm using a 2709 for PC, Blu-ray playback and HDTV (with the Nero Liquid TV TIVO) viewing. I was looking at a 32" 1080p Sharp but it was too big for PC use (viewing distance). If you decide to use a 32" 1080p set, just see if you can download the manual and look at the supported resolutions to make sure it will take the lower res that you might play games at (like 1680x1050). Some of them will only drop to 1280x720 from 1920x1080.

ok. thank you, so do you have comparisson pics of a 24" and a 27" I'm gonna have to go that way I think because of the resolution, and I'm upgrading to the quad core you have and later buying a new card that performs better than the 260. because right now everything runs good at 1920x1200 (even gta 4).do you have a review for the 2709 how good is it? thanks in advance again.

I have both a Dell 2405 and a 2407 before moving to the 2709 and it's the best of the lot by a noticeable margin. The only warning is that the default setting is quite bright and the color are a bit to vibrant. You have to turn the brightness way down and make some adjustment to the color setting.

There is a input lag on the 2405/7 series but I have never really notice it as I don't play a lot of FPS games. I did have a PS3 hooked up to the 2709 and I have no problem playing games on it. If you can live with a 2405. you should not have any problem with the 2709. Sorry I can't post any pictures as I'm vacationing in Hong Kong atm. You can find one of the review with some setting suggestions here:

hey friend , i bought the ln32a550 and while it is huge i noticed some ghosting wih the red colors on a black background and that was not present on my dell 2405, can you confirm there is no ghosting on the dell2709w im planning on getting it for my pc, and using the other display for the livingroom, but the ghosting in games like left 4 dead and gta Iv was bad on the samsung ln32a550,so that sucked big time. can you try those games on the 2709w and tell me if they dont have ghosting , and also do the 2405 and 2709w have the same input lag then its ok for me, perhaps the 2709w has less input lag ? thanks a bunch again for your replies.

i want to buy this soon so please help.

May not be able to help you since I don't have either of those games. I may have Far Cry 1 on the system and I'll give that a try. As I said, since I don't really play FPS games much, I'm not really the right person on the Lag issue since I didn't even notice them on the 2405 while others were saying that it's pretty bad.

I think it's very much a personal sensitivity thing. I've never noticed ghosting on my 2405's either. I've noticed it on other panels, though... even newer ones. :(
