Okay, so I got a atypical setup on my computer. Just setup my three monitors in the "corner" of my L-shaped desk. Works great for my flight combat games, but I'm interested in looking at some racing games as well. But I'm worried that my config won't allow me to attach a wheel to my desk.

Anyone know if wheels will work for something like this?

The unevenness of the desk is intentional. One side is thinner than the other. The red blob is of course my chair. The blue shows line-of-sight and where it crosses the desk is about where I'd like to mount the wheel, but obviously facing the chair, not facing straight to the right.

So... any ideas?

The edge of the desk where you mount the wheel needs be straight, and also needs a good amount of strength if you're using force feedback. You could mount an extension your desk to sit in the same position you're in now, but it needs braces for support. Otherwise you'll have to try and sit and move your monitors to the left side so the wheel can be mounted correctly.

Best wheel on the market right now is the Logitech G27, but a Logitech Driving Force Pro or Driving Force GT are equally good if you're not looking to spend as much money.

That's what I was afraid of. I was hoping there might be some out there than handled angled mounting, but I sorta doubted it would be supported.

I was already thinking that I would do this to open up more desk space. My current arrangement leaves a large corner of unusable space. Just gotta get the right extension cables and such.

I'm probably looking more entry level at this point... I may upgrade if I really get into racing games, but right now I don't want to invest a lot if I don't end up liking them very much.

Any thoughts on the ThrustMaster Wheels? I've got a Thrustmaster Joystick that I'm happy with.

I don't have any experience with Thrustmaster wheels so I can't speak to any experience with them. I really wouldn't go for their cheaper wheel, though (the Ferrari GT Experience) because cheaper price means cheaper materials and construction. This of course all depends on how much racing you intend to do with the wheel. I can say that I have gone through my fair share of cheap steering wheels in the past, and I tell you after I purchased a Logitech MOMO Force 10 or so years ago, I will never spare expense on a good one again.

I am using a Driving Force Pro, so I can give you my experiences with it. The Driving Force GT is basically the same model only with upgraded components and is currently sold for $130. I have had my DFP for seven years now and it still works great, and I am a heavy sim-racer in games like Grand Prix Legends, GTR-2 and NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. One of the great things about the Logitech wheels is that they have a 900 degree range of motion, and this range is fully customizable on the PC. It uses locking mechanisms at 180 degrees, but uses the FFB motors beyond that. This does not take away from the FFB effect, however. The only complaint I have is the rubber on the wheel itself has been wearing down as of late and is getting a little sticky. This is probably from my sweaty hands, though, and could be avoided by wearing gloves. I think they changed the material on the DFGT, but don't quote me on that. A minor annoyance is the tension in the pedals, but you can use bungie cords or something similar to adjust that. Specifically the gas is a little too soft and the brake is a little more too soft for my taste.

Have you thought about using a Fanatec Rennsport wheels stand? It could fit in the inside corner of your desk and it would also be easy to remove when not playing racing games.




It folds rapidly for easy storage like that exercise machine that has been lying under my bed for the past two years.

Well now you tell me!! I just spent two and half hours last night rearrange everything! :D

Well, seriously I did, but I was planning on doing that for a while now anyway. Just finally got off my butt and did it. When through like two packages of command strips, plus some command strip hooks, but got all my cords off the ground and "neatly" pinned up on the inside of my desk so they are out of sight.
