Post subject:  Multi-speaker analog 5.1 headphones

So I have Win 7 and a Xi-Fi Titanium with 5.1 and 7.1 digital optical and 4 analog mini jacks. Since most of my games don't do shit with sound cards now I though it might be neat to add some value by picking up a surround headset.

I am currently using an entry level Sony mdr-nc6 stereo model through my 2.1 speaker's headphone jack. I think I will try running them through the sound card with CMSS-3D to see what they are like but they are currently meh.

Anyway, I am looking for a mutli-speaker 5.1 headset that uses the sound card for audio work. So 3 analog connections. I know there are other ways of doing the surround with headphones but I have a boner for the multi-speaker, multi-connector types. So what is good? Or why am I a fool for not getting an emulated 7.1 set or Dolby Headphone set?

This is what I am currently looking at. The price is acceptable and it has what I want. Don't care about the mic stuff.

Post subject:  I've heard nothing but good

I've heard nothing but good about Tritton headphones. Whenever I get aroudn to affording a new headset (or my Sennheisers die), I'll be getting those. I think they have a version that uses USB (maybe it's that one, with a dongle) but I'd prefer teh analogue connections, too. Plus USB audio seems to muck with a lot of other software.

Post subject:  Having had a 5.1 headphone a

Having had a 5.1 headphone a long time ago, and then moving to the HD595.. I would like to chip and say that the surround effect from the 5.1 headphones can be good, but they were at least, very awkward to balance the bass, and the volume across the drivers. I would say that a good quality stereo headset, with large drivers, with proper surround effects (I don't mean, oh lets slap this sound here, this sound here etc etc, but proper positional audio like Dolby Headphone, or CMSS3D) that it would be far better.

As for which headset is up to you, but the HD595 was regarded as being good a while back. The 558, AD700 Audio-Technicas are both regarded highly, as are many of the Xonar (PC360), and for example Corsair USB headsets (has its own 3D ness).

I would say the source is as important as the headphones themselves though, onboard audio usually doesn't have all the bells and whistles such as Dobly Headphone. I am looking to upgrade to a Xonar DS (cheap as chips) and works fine for gaming.

Post subject:  I would stay away from

I would stay away from Tritton because it's a MadCatz brand, and they have a reputation for having the worst build quality of any peripheral manufacturer out there. I can attest to that, having not bought a MadCatz product in more than ten years (when I have the choice). Only MadCatz products I own are the Rock Band instruments which came in the band bundle. Always had problems with the guitars, but surprisingly the Beatles drum kit I have has been performing well for the past two years.

Post subject:  I've used three different

I've used three different analog 5.1 headphones so far. A Turtle Beach pair that were fine till they gave up the ghost. The Tritons mentioned which I liked.
But my latest is the Psyko Carbon which I really like a lot. In fact they're so good I found that I have a slight hearing loss in my left ear. They're that accurate.
Be forewarned it's a gaming only head set. It uses a wave guide concept and music will sound kind of weird. Music is almost muffled with a slight echo like effect.
But in games these thing rock big time. Even in a game like minecraft which has the worst positional audio I've heard, I find I can get a bead on most mobs before I see them. Except creepers, I hate those things. lol
On the other had if you want a good all rounder the Tritons are a good pick too IMHO
