Post subject: | IPS Monitor or LED Monitor? |
I'm not a professional photographer nor video editor nor graphic designer. I don't work on complex 3D CAD/CAM either. Besides working with MS Office Suite and 2D CAD software, I just play games (e.g. Crysis 2, Dirt 3 etc), listen to my audio collections, watch 720p HD movies/videos and collecting color wallpapers I downloaded from the internet. So, is getting an IPS panel monitor an overkill? I was searching for a new 23"/24" full HD monitor to replace my old 19" one. So far the only type of monitor I could find that has a Display Port is IPS. They are slightly more expensive than LED monitors. Most LED monitors favor HDMI but my graphic card has six Mini Display Ports. Buying a Mini DP to HDMI adapter seems to be a hassle. Examples of IPS monitors: Asus PA246Q 24.1”, Dell 24'' U2412M UltraSharp & LG 23" IPS236V. |

The Dell U2412M is an IPS with an LED backlight, so it covers both of your things! |

There are no LED Monitors! It's either an IPS Panel, or TN or PVA. Its just LED backlight for more brightness! |

Sorry I got confused because here, IPS monitors are marketed as "Premium" or "IPS Panel" monitors. Non-IPS ones are merely referred as LCD/LED monitors. |

Depends on your taste and the panel in question. IPS generally have better color that is viewable and consistent across a far wider viewing angle. But response time is lower so some folks notice ghosting in situations like gaming, in addition to there being no 120Hz IPS panels. |

So it's a choice between vibrant colors or fast response time. Anyway, I discovered Samsung S24A65D. It uses MVA panel. Is that good for gaming? The sales assistant has no clue. |

Anyone has experience with AOC or Viewsonic monitors? Any good monitors from these manufacturers? |

Post subject: | I had a set of TN Viewsonics |
I had a set of TN Viewsonics as my first monitor set. I dropped them for my current set of Dell IPS displays. It really comes down to the type of games you play and your appreciation for visuals. If you're a gamer that plays for the game and you want that competitive edge, I'd recommend a 120 Hz of some sort. If you appreciate the modern graphics games have to offer, I'd really recommend the IPS displays for the better color. I went with IPS displays because 120Hz displays are also really expensive. :x |
