Post subject: | Quick Question! |
Hi all . I have a quick question. Can DVI-D be hooked up to DVI-I? My monitor is DVI-D & my computer DVI-I. Do I need an adapter ? I get a no vga no dvi signal message when I turn on the monitor. Not sure why I get no VGA either. Please help ! |

If your monitor is DIV-D and the pc is DVI-I then it should work without issues or the need for an adaptor. Is this the only monitor for the PC or is it an addtional monitor to the PC? If it is an addtional monitor then try enabling it in the display properties which can be reached form the windows desktop (assuming you running windows). Try enable the monitor and if still not wokring try a different resolution and refresh rate. DVI-D = Digital only signal. DVI-A = Analog only signal. DVI-I = Digital and analog signals. |

Post subject: | hi. Thanks for the advice. |
hi. Thanks for the advice. Yes its the only monitor. Trouble is I only see a no vga signal or a no hdmi when i switch the monitor on and nothing else. I opened up the pc and cleaned the ram think maybe it was dusty or had been dislodged in transit and still no joy. I have no idea what to do next can anyone suggest something please? The monitor has hdmi - dvi-d and vga . |

You said that dvi-d to div- i is ok but i notice that the graphics card dvi-i ports require 21 pins and the dvi cable which fits my monitor has only 12. Thats if i try to plug directly into the graphics card. I've no idea why the monitor won't work when i try to plug into the vga above or the dvi port above this. The monitor is working fine when i plug it into my laptop. So no problems with that. |

It doesn't have as many pins, and therefore doesn't support as high a refresh rate, at higher resolutions. |
